This story of the teenage Camille and her first love, a boy named Sullivan, who meet again eight years after he leaves her to travel the world, stars lovely 16-year-old
Lola Créton. In this interview

director Mia Hansen-Løve describes how she decided to cast an actress who was the right age for the first part of the film, rather than a twentysomething who could more easily play Camille in the second part. So Lola needed to feign a maturity and worldliness not naturally hers to make the 8 year time jump convincing. Seems the director is no fan of the American cinematic tradition of using thirty year olds to play high school students. Can't say I disagree with her there!
