Silent B&W film. Slapstick comedy. In another thread ghost remarked that Germany did make bad movies too. I guess this falls into that category  and I derived a lot of pleasure imagining ghost cringing that this film made it outside the country.

The lead actress lives with a bunch of siblings - little girls all, a very implausible age difference. Probably something was lost in translation - that she's adopted them seems to make more sense. Anyway, they make an appearance in a few short scenes, but some of those are OT - they bathe outside au naturel.

Thanks for this little old gem. I've never heard about it before and I'm curious.

The director is Leni Riefenstahl, a very controversial person. Later she made propaganda movies for the nazis.

I will credit her with merit for 'Olympia', one of the greatest modern Olympics (Berlin 1936) films, even if there is a cameo appearance by a political figure who shall remain unnamed. She certainly knew how to show off athletic figures, particularly male.

But I have never seen her acting in any of her earlier mountain films (only brief excerpts), so I am excited about this one. Thanks!

according to wikipedia the first film with riefenstahl as director was
1925: Wege zu Kraft und Schönheit – Ein Film über moderne Körperkultur
https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leni_Riefenstahl
the director of this film was Arnold Franck. Riefenstahl was an actress in this film (Gita)
https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Der_gro%C3%9Fe_Sprung
Both links are in german language. The text about the film I've machine translated you can find it with an emule-search under "Der_große_Sprung EN.odt"
i'm impressed with the "analog" tricks, all the heavy equipment and so. It's a slapstickfilm

None of that CGI garbage here!

I just meant to say I had only seen some of her later documentary work as director, and had never seen her acting in her earlier light-entertainment mountain melodramas directed by others. I did not even realize that she had ever acted and directed in the same film, I thought it was just one or the other. Thanks for the information!
