[REL] Podkidysh aka The Foundling (1939)

This may not be to everyone's taste as is B & W and in Russian, but I love these older Russian films with young actresses and this one is no exception. If you are also into these, the second link has some excellent films !! Warning - very brief attire worn.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0184823/

A little girl is lost in Moscow and hits the road making fun (not intentionally) of everybody she meets. She'll be back home soon but she will change the life of at least one man forever. The movie has good music and an unforgettable mixture of annoying (a busy-body), ridiculous (a desperate couple), and sad (a lonely man) characters.

This film is to be in top 250 because it is humane, moral, and simple while being witty, dramatic, and excitingly funny (a treat for children/adults and a lesson for the grown-ups/kids). What is more, it has an extremely high "re-watch" potential. Let me point out the following. This movie is crafted on the same level as "City Lights". Coolness of some movies that are rated extremely high on IMDb may fade away with years, but humanity of stuff like this will stay. If you have any doubts, learn the Russian language, find this movie, and watch it. Please do not think that the author of this review is an old bore adjusted only to this kind of cinema - for example, one of my favourites is "Batoru rowaiaru" ("Battle Royale") but that's another story...

For those who know the original language of the film, it is unquestionably 10 out of 10. Thanks for attention.

I will also be a source for a while, but due to space problems this will be limited.

Enjoy...

Thank you Snake for the bump, deadman & pillowbaker for the links!
Now that I have seen the original at least twice (plus the time with the video while correcting the subtitles) I think that I can safely watch the remake without subtitles and still understand that version.

I do not like the 1080p torrent version I linked! Sorry about that. I much prefer the 720p files because the colorization seems less blurry.

I have a slight preference for the 720p Tubi version linked here:
https://www.first-loves.com/forums/view ... 32#p116532
over the 720p Archive.org version linked here:
https://www.first-loves.com/forums/view ... 85#p116485

There is plenty of funny dialog in this, and I am sure I would find even more of it funny if I understood the original Russian. Still, my favorite line of dialog is more sentimental than funny and comes at the very end when the sleepy little girl is murmuring to her mother, who is singing her a lullaby.
Spoiler:

Watch the movie. Why are you peeking here?
The opensubtitles English file is very good but sometimes a little too literal in its translation. The Tubi subtitles are a more natural translation most of the time but their timing was off. I combed through that version correcting the timing and improving parts of the translation with reference to the older opensubtitles version.

English Tubi subtitles, corrected and timed for 720p Archive.org video:
Podkidysh _ Подкидыш (1939).720p.Archive.org.en.srt
English Tubi subtitles, corrected and timed for 720p Tubi video:
The Foundling (1939).720p.RUSSIAN.WebTubi.en.srt

1080p version found by Moonee. It is the best-looking version I have seen.
