I've always loved this film. It features 13-year-old
Charlotte Burke in her only role, based on the book
Marianne Dreams by Catherine Storr. Some eerie twists: her co-star
Elliott Spiers died only six years after starring alongside her, as the boy she meets in her dream world. He committed suicide. As did author Catherine Storr in 2001. Apparently Storr never did like that scene at the end which doesn't occur in the book, where the character of Anna is contemplating a leap into the sea. Too close to home?
I first saw this movie as a teenager, when it started airing on one of the premium cable movie channels here in the US. It has a haunting quality about it that stuck with me. This is a hard one to categorize. It doesn't fit neatly into any genre. If you've never seen it before, you're in for a treat!
