wow .. that was.. tough! I did watch it before, but not without subs. Now that I know what's been said it's not easy to watch, all that suffering, all that torture -- there is quite a lot of sadism depicted - a lot absence of heart, love, veracity

Don't go quietly into the night.

Yeah, ethnic cleansing is no fun at all.

I watched this a while back without subs and it was pretty obvious there were mass executions going on, but they don't show them in gory detail. It's a bit like a school play depiction of the Holocaust. What the action lacks is in the dialogue; while that poor kid stands there naked, blond collaborator girl reads the horrible instructions for administering punishment, how to carve someone up in a way that keeps them alive as long as possible. No please ... I'll never steal gum from the store again, I swear!

Plenty of people predicted the death of blu-ray, but it doesn't seem to be happening. Not yet anyway. What's encouraging is the way smaller companies like this Second Run are releasing lesser known films, which I wouldn't have expected to see. In the last year or so I've stumbled onto a number of these releases. In some cases there was never even a DVD before, now we have blu-rays. Maybe I'll drop a few suggestions to these guys if they have a contact email. Couldn't hurt, right?

Sheesh, you guys are scaring me off of watching this. I had downloaded earlier versions but have not actually watched it yet, just skimmed through to be sure the video works.

Contact info and email address:[Code] I agree Second Run is a terrific label. Their selection of Czech films is particularly strong.

When reading those few sentence long review's from IMDB I don't know what to expect...
Reds, whites revolution e.t.c.
Is that mess (what happened there after the end of WWI) presented through the strangeness or is it serious movie?

I have carefully re-watched this film and can confirm that the girl who appears in the scene at minute 29 was not credited. In fact, there are seven actresses in total in the credits and I have identified them all.

The whole gaggle of schoolchildren that show up a few times in the film were recruited from the local area, including the girl in that scene. They were amateurs with no prior experience. Probably real life classmates. A common money saving practice in indie cinema - you invite locals who want to be extras to show up on a certain day. If they get paid at all it isn't much. They're doing it for fun, and the chance to be in a movie.

Natural actors.
It is rare for them to lend themselves to certain 'scenes', it was good that the girl agreed to film the iconic scene.
