Reptile12, I am looking forward to your DVD5! It is sure to be better quality than a rip. It will probably also please me more than the standard upscales I find on streaming sites, because those upscales are not done by ghost.
Yeah (AI) upscaling is kind of an art and ghost perfected it. It requires experience and skills..to know which AI Model from topaz to use and ghost additionally also does color, contrast corrections

WOW thanks for taking all that time constantly synching the subs, and for your time and bandwidth and HD space to download and compare all these files. Myself, I enjoy the work but I get retentive with the remaining files sometimes have difficulty deleting them! I am also going to check out reptile's fullDVD but I'll also look at that upscale.

edit: I posted before reading page 3, so preemptive thank you to ghost and your time and flower powers. :cool

Deleting files, what's that?

(I thought hard drives were like CD-Rs or phonograph records.)

I still haven't had the time and energy and eyeball power to do real quality comparisons. I just download them, sync the subs and leave the rest until later. And if ghost is going to AI upscale this, I'll just wait to watch THAT version.

Anyway ... English subtitles resynced to reptile12's PAL DVD5 ulozto version:

No kidding, right?! I need help when it comes to that part of the job! I just think back to when my old friend was helping me pack and move. Pulls out the silverware drawer, points at the collection of wooden chopsticks and some plasticware, and goes  what the f--k is this, man?! And I said, maybe let's take just a couple-- and BAM he throws them in the trash like he'd been insulted. I gotta try to think that way!

I did toss out over 500 burned CDR, DVDR and dual layer DVDR data discs, and recently 4 boxes of books (books not tossed but given away), and I have gotten better. Think I'll keep my phonographs and wax cylinders though. (anyone ever use zip or jaz drives?)

Thanks again for the synchs. Certainly excited for any other finds, as this movie does look interesting, though perhaps possibly depressing, judging by the synopsis. I don't know why, but I am so affected by the downward spiral stories involving the themes it mentions.

Hey goku, check out this link:
https://www.first-loves.com/forums/view ... hp?t=14523

This is where Night and ghost themselves school me in sub synching and translation editing. It gets pretty straightforward once you get the hang of it. Night usually finishes them and posts them before I even get a chance to check them! (no complaining :D)

[edit: sorry goku, I just checked the link above, and indeed you already are aware of it, since I see your posts there. ]

Well, I would HOPE that after doing something a thousand times that I would get faster and more efficient at it! :D I have used multiple varieties of software over the years to sync subs, but now I swear by SubtitleEdit, thanks to ghost. While there are many syncing options available in it, the one that works for MOST subtitles is to set the start times for the first spoken dialog and the last spoken dialog, and let the machine recalculate the rest of the times in between. Then check multiple spots throughout the video to make sure it is right. Mostly I have done this "by ear" (listening), but more often I am using the Waveform View as a visual aid.
Personally I deleted most of my old DVDRip.XviD and BDRip.XviD AVI files since I replaced them with BluRay.1080p.x264 encodes.
That is the intelligent approach, absolutely. I just don't have that discipline. (And it is physically and emotionally painful for me to just DELETE something that took me hours or days to download. My children! Your birth was so painful for me!) Also, sooner or later I have to stop putzing around on the computer and actually WATCH some of those videos!

pillowbaker, you are either supposed to use fresh new chopsticks for every meal, or keep using the same pair for decades.

Working on an AI 720p upscale of the DVD rip. Might get it posted tonight, otherwise tomorrow.

Thanks David. ;) I'm not very interested in this movie. So I'm glad you're doing the job.

OK, upscaled from the DVD iso that was posted.
The DVD was not a "widescreen enhanced" DVD so only pushed the upscale to 720p (still, that's a generous 174%) - but it looks pretty good imho.
4 files - 1.53gb.
Stereo French audio from the DVD.
There were no extras on the DVD to include - so it's just the film.
English subtitles as found and released here - they're embedded as a layer in the mkv to save anyone the trouble of adding them - useful if playing them off a PC or have a hardware player that can play mkv with embedded SRT like I do!

If someone can do the usual and share it into EMule.

* Note the resolution is 1232x720 but with a embedded display resolution of 1280x720.
There's not a great deal of difference between the 2. But I double-checked using the "Universal" studio round globe log at the 0h00m03s mark to see if the globe/circle had the same width and height. It did when set to 1280x720 :) Good of them to provide a handy circle to check the aspect ratio! Obviously a circle should have hte same width and height - otherwise the aspect ratio has got screwed up. With DVD and PAL vs NTSC the aspect ratios can be a bit off as PAL is 720x576, NTSC is 720x480. Some DVD's are widescreen enhanced. It gets complicated - good to check against a circle, or to know what aspect ratio it was filmed in. So much stuff on youtube gets the wrong aspect ratio!
