Re: [REL] My Father the Hero (1994)
Thank you for sharing this movie, beatpats. I do appreciate the link, but I am curious. Imdb shows the original aspect ratio is 1.85:1. Is there a benefit to grabbing the 4:3 ratio instead?
Re: [REL] My Father the Hero (1994)
when i compared the 2 the 1.85 actualy masks the bottm of the 4:3 image to achiev the widescreen so u actualy see more of what the camra capturd on the 4:3 vrsn, that's why i prsnly prefrd this aspct ratio . . .
Re: [REL] My Father the Hero (1994)
I had not looked up the details but that is what I was expecting when I decided to get your file. (Thanks!) I do not have anything to compare it to but it sounds good to me! It was common for videotapes, laserdiscs, television broadcasts and earlier DVDs to achieve fullscreen 4:3 ratio by expanding the image out to the full camera negative instead of matting it even more to cut off the sides. Therefore, more image, sometimes very interesting.
ghost's most recent release of "Pretty Baby" is a famous example of a 4:3 film image that shows more than the matted theatrical version.
When 16:9 (1.78) widescreen TVs became common, some cable TV stations would broadcast "open-matte" 1.78 or 1.85 versions of films that were theatrically screened at 2.35, and viewers suddenly discovered some surprising expanded imagery. "Showgirls" (1995) is a famous and popular example for that ratio. (Not an FLM film, just an example.)

Thanks again for all your unique offerings, beatpats. I am grabbing your file and one off of uloz as well. I look forward to watching this, it seems delightful!
Re: [REL] My Father the Hero (1994)
My oh my! It looks like I was not paying attention back in August. Thank you for pointing out that we were mixing two different movie versions of the story! I have now created a new thread for the 1994 English-language film and moved over the posts for that version. IMDB says it is a U.S./France co-production, but I put it in the United States forum to make it clear that it is different from the original French 1991 movie.
In the thread for the 1991 version, popdrome first posted an ed2k link for the 1994 movie here: viewtopic.php?p=75470#p75470

I don’t think popdrome‘s version is being shared anymoreNight457 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 24, 2023 1:48 pm

I do not think so either from having tried it, which is why I got a 1080p version from RARBG:

We just do not have the drive space to share every film all the time. However, if somebody wanted that version and requested a reshare, I am pretty sure that someone who DOES have it would bring it out from drive storage.

Thanks! I got enough sources for the BluRay(s) including a remux at 25gb or something. I’m actually still in the process of getting both existing BluRays to be able to tell which one is superior visually (transfer).Night457 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 30, 2023 2:34 pm I do not think so either from having tried it, which is why I got a 1080p version from RARBG:

I recently had a film where the *limited* bluray edition they just releases was visually so much superior to the „regular“ BluRay sold to the masses a couple years ago. Different company/distributor can mean a different transfer that was done.
