[REL] Hey Babe! (1983)
Re: [REL] Hey Babe! (1983)
I grabbed the 1080p movie from Vimeo. I had to fix the aspect ratio, because it wasn't exactly 1.85:1, but here it is:

It was a bit too much squished. Not much, but I want it to be exact.Do you mean it was squished or stretched and therefore warped?
Re: [REL] Hey Babe! (1983)
It should not be squished at all, so thank you very much for fixing it!

I know when DVDs are ripped the aspect ratio sometimes is not correct. I think it's something to do with square pixels on modern monitors and TVs vs not square pixels + of course DVD's are sometimes "widescreen enhanced" with the intention of being stretched on old TVs (or having every 4th pixel dropped on a 4:3 tv that can't do widescreen enhanced - yes it's part of the DVD spec that all DVD players have to be able to do this).ghost wrote: Sat Jun 03, 2023 11:05 amIt was a bit too much squished. Anyway I've sometimes found the best thing to do to check it's right is find a circle or wheel in the film (as long as it's square onto the camera) and physically measure it on the screen with a tape measure to check the height and width match! Sometimes even looking up the aspect ratio on IMDb can be wrong because sometimes a film could be open-matted a bit or cropped in on the new HD scan. For the Oviri upscale there was a wheel about 30mins into the film!

I was already wondering..how you are able to determine the exact correct aspect ration of a film/video. Because in rare cases none of the presets within VLC player work for a video.
Is this now a re-encode in the correct aspect ratio or how does this work? Apologies for my confusion
Re: [REL] Hey Babe! (1983)
Of course I had to reencode the video. The quality remained the same.Is this now a re-encode in the correct aspect ratio or how does this work? Apologies for my confusion

No, but on a serious note - thanks! My encoding knowledge was rusty. Thought maybe aspect ration can also be specified within MKV metadata nowadays or something.

Yes, you are.Let me be the pedantic bitch I am
Not in this case because of the black bars. Framesize was 1920x1080 (with too big black bars).Thought maybe aspect ration can also be specified within MKV metadata nowadays or something.
