There are "proper" subtitles for the first and fourth films.

A friend mentioned something similar about Japanese subtitles translating better. He has Japanese subtitles from HDTV rips.

The version of the 4th movie that I found has low-res, hard-coded English and Japanese subtitles. I didn't know this was going to be the case. And the quality of the video is somewhat low as well, making the subs hard to read at certain points.

DreamScape mentions proper subs existing for the 4th movie, I'll look into it. The 4th film seems to be highly regarded by fans of the series. Definitely looks good. TNT has subs for it: "English subtitles were transcribed from the hardcoded copy and timed to the HD version." Attempting to grab them now.

Just for the heck of it, I tried grabbing the version aliceclub uploaded to pikpak, though that took me a while to figure out. If anyone tried to use that platform, they don't make it straightforward. You have to make an account, and when you select aliceclub's files to download them, it is actually saving them to your account. From your account, you can download them, but not before they try to get you to install their program. To get around this, you have to link on a the small link "download with browser", but they make it obtuse, and they purposely don't make that part look like a proper link. I resumed once in the browse and it downloaded just fine.

Both are amzn rips of about the same size.

Thanks for the comparison. I'm curious why the size is different, but it's probably nothing more than Amazon changing the compression slightly between the two files being ripped.

I WONDERED where in the heck you had discovered subtitles for the 4th, because I had supposedly "already looked at" all the site possibilities that I knew in my internet search for subtitles.

I hate when this happens with film titles..which is why I nowadays prefer searching with IMDb ID numbers

What makes it more aggravating is that I KNOW that and do that. It works at opensubtitles.org, FLM, TNT ... (And it used to work at RARBG, RIP.) I was just trying to take a shortcut to search for multiple films!
