Wow..
What can I say about this film?
Well-meaning, intensive character study of a family swallowed up by grief. Stuck in a perpetual day to day, trying to make it to the next: The youngest daughter can't/won't accept that her father's gone. The son can't find a way to express or let the grief spill out.
And the mother... Amid the piling bills, hassles with her husbands insurance, torn whether to sell the house she and her husband refurbished from a shell, and finally trying to find solace in a new job when she quits doing paranormal readings for people with recently deceased loved ones; because the one person she truly wants to communicate with can't be reached.. The mother seems to be stuck most of all..
A very slow moving drama; almost [Igmar] Bergman-esque in its construction and pacing. You really have to stay with this one, as, while you can see their intense grief play out onscreen, I personally found it hard to relate to and wasn't 'drawn-in'; feeling that grief myself. (For me it was probably due to the short amount of time daddy was actually in the film..)
An interesting tid-bit: The father is played by
Fedja van Huêt; the actor who played the 'bad' dad in a [REL] in our Denmark forum,
Speak No Evil (2022). When I first recognized him, I felt a tinge of hope that this movie might have a 'Thriller' edge to it. But alas, it was not to be.
Still a good film to watch if you enjoy intense dramas. Not really a tear-jerker, so your hankies are safe!
