The server list still works well for me, though I have been noticing issues with the emule-security server. Has anyone else had any issues with this server lately?

Yes, I'm using eMule Sunrise at the moment. It has more users and files than eMule Security.

OK, now I have a really stupid question: what happens if that DAT file is empty? My eMule is apparently working properly with an empty addresses.dat file. I backed it up and then resaved the original with your sample address. I will have to watch to see if anything different happens when I restart eMule.

Right now I have to figure out why my config folder was hidden away in Appdata, where I am certain I did not have it before my new setup. I would hate to have to set it up yet again to make it where I can easily find the damn config folder ...

I think the "auto update server.met at startup" won't work, if the adresses.dat is empty.

As far as I remember you can chose at the setup where you want it to be stored. I never use the the "setup.exe", I just download eMule as an archive and extract it.

TRIELA - I apologize for derailing your thread! It seems that ghost answered your question and I did not have any brilliant ideas anyway. This does not directly deal with your issue but the related information might be of interest. Or skip it.

That sounds like something I would have chosen, so I looked. It turns out I did NOT have it checked in Options/Server. When I restarted it with it checked, I got an error which I COULD NOT READ because the eMule start-screen cute mule logo was over top of it blocking it and nothing could be moved; nothing showed up in the Log either. I could only click X to close the error and then eMule started properly. It made no difference whether I used the original empty addresses.dat or the one I edited in Notepad. That is apparently not the correct way to change it but it does not generate an updated version either.

However, I did remember to setup eMule so that in the Servers tab I can manually "Update server.met from URL" with [Code] and I am used to doing that daily.

I have never tried this for software as far as I know, unless it was the only option. Does this just use the predetermined settings, without the ability to select options? Obviously I failed to select the correct/desired options THIS time!

I did some reading and found that the option "Store config and downloads in the program directory" can be selected AFTER installation in Options/Extended. However,
Please note that if you change this setting after installing eMule, any custom configuration, serverlist, downloads, ipfilter etc. will disappear.

What the heck, I tried it anyway. Catastrophe! Whether I tied to re-use the config folder copied over from AppData or let it generate a new one, it came back on repeated attempts with a slew of errors. So it turns out selecting the option I want AFTER installation will NOT work quite so easily, despite what emule-project says. I do not really want to take the time to reload my shared files into eMule (so it knows that they are shared) so I am not about to reinstall now. So I returned to my initial settings and made a shortcut on my Desktop to the AppData/eMule/Config folder so I don't have to search for it again. (And I backed up the folder on a hard drive, which was my real reason for wanting to find it in the first place.)

Thank you for the answers!

Strange behaviour... :think
If you have checked it in the Options/Server and filled your adresses.dat with the url, it should normally work.

Yes, here:

Maybe, meanwhile your mule is messed up and you really have to set up it new.

Silly question: Don't you have your eMule folder from your old computer? Just copy and paste it to the new one.

So I CAN just copy-paste the address you gave using Notepad? I must have done something else wrong then.

No, it is working just fine once I switched back to using the Config in Appdata. It just annoys me that it is nested in a non-obvious location. The cause was that I foolishly set up eMule with individual data locations for each separate computer user. Some people would require that, but I am the only one who uses my computer.
Silly question: Don't you have your eMule folder from your old computer? Just copy and paste it to the new one.
Not silly, but I have not yet removed the old drive and copied over anything I want. However, I DO have the old Config folder backed up on an external drive. However, that has the data for the old installation and the hundreds of files hashed on the old computer. That is not relevant to the new installation and whatever I have shared now. I even changed my online eMule name with the new install, so in this case I was actually leaving the old behind! I know, I am inconsistent. Regardless, the problem seems less about the Config data itself and more about where the Config data is stored and the problems encountered switching it. If I do a clean install with a proper setup then I expect there will be no problems with the new location. But since I returned it to my multiple-potential-users setup, it is Starting and working just fine so I am not motivated to do a reinstall. I'll wait until something gets messed up seriously!

Derailing is not the problem, still no connection is the problem, so if anyone can cast an eye to the log below and maybe have an idea...
I downloaded his server.met file but no joy.

EDIT:
adding the eMule Sunrise server immediately solved my problem, because it gave me HighID, so .... what was the problem? I don't know, but I would like to
