Because it is Sony. They have a long history of treating video right!

Yep. And sometimes a bit silly... From my memory at least. I didn't watch it for ages.

It was silly in English, so the German dub got it right! The actors behaved like young kids for their characters because the characters grew up alone without any adult supervision. It was ridiculous that the critics faulted the film for that.

Is that a web-dl or blu-ray rip, or did you AI upgrade the fullscreen DVD? If that's an AI upscale it's the best one I've ever seen!

Yeah, these kids grew up isolated (and insulated) so they had no idea what was happening to them. There were no adults to say even marginally helpful things, like your body's going to start changing, and you're going to start having ... funny feelings. Nothing. They had to navigate it completely on their own.

Actually, the one thing that kinda bugged me with regard to realism was their shelter. I mean that thing is the Buckingham Palace of bamboo architecture! Sailors don't have the engineering knowledge or expert craftsmanship to build a multi-level mansion out of tropical plant life. The kids sure as hell couldn't have done it! Their house practically screams movie set. Aside from that ... I think the critics were just looking for stuff to whine about because the subject matter made them uncomfortable.

I figure sailors are lazy when they get off a boat ... and Richard had years with nothing particular to do. We did not really see his earlier attempts at building a house, did we?

(But yes, of course it was actually talented set builders. I would lounge around eating mango on the island rather than working on Bamboo Buckingham!)

^This.

My MOTHER liked this movie and was not offended. Some people just need to get a grip.

Who knows? Maybe Paddy was an expert carpenter before he became a sailor, and his big garage full of power tools washed away in a storm after he was done building the house. :D

Sorry that I didn't mention it. Yes, it's an upscale of the DVD, 480p to 1080p. AI software is getting better and better.
