The only English subs out there contain stilted sounding translations, not the way anyone would actually talk - on the other hand you can usually understand what they're trying to say. The captions are good enough to follow the plot so I included them on the disc.

It looks like your "stilted" English subtitles match the improved 2012 version of a 2011 machine translation from Spanish, but with a different sync. Of course machine translations have improved since then, so I did some experiments. I did a new machine translation from the 2008 Spanish, as well as a machine translation from the 2012 Russian. (I do not know what kind of translation either the Spanish or Russian are and how accurately they reflect the original French.) Sadly my results did not give anything clearly and consistently better, just better in some lines than others. So for now, "stilted" will be good enough.

I don’t know yet but I usually prefer the bigger h264 encodes due to its compatibility and often the hevc ones are just Fanmade re-encodes at a small filesize/bitrate (even for hevc)

I've read about this before. It's too bad movie directors can't keep their hands to themselves. Both for the unfortunate young actresses and for the ever tightening censorship environment it feeds.

Evidently Jacques Doillon hired another actor to play the part but then summarily fired him and substituted himself - at the same time he made the scene much more intimate, and (as Judith Godrèche says) did take after take after take in private to "rehearse until it was perfect". I can't imagine doing this in front of your girlfriend. Making out with someone else while they watch. Being apparently the only adult in the room, Jane Birkin should've spoken up. Having another person willing to back her might've made a difference for Judith. She was estranged from her family though and no longer living at home, so there were no parents standing by her, making sure she was treated properly by the production. From what I understand Ariel Besse didn't mind the scenes she filmed for Beau Pere. She wasn't grossed out getting intimate with her costar Patrick Dewaere (bit of a schoolgirl crush maybe?), although she was embarrassed by the ad campaign plastering topless pictures of her all over Paris. If a girl is okay with the scenes she's being asked to film that's one thing. When she's pressured into it that's something else.

I mean in retrospective what they (the Studio/distributor) did to Besse was also really cruel and unnecessary it seems. They could still have used a provocative poster but to go and use her nudity as an ad like that is kinda shameful and exploitive. And almost feels pornographic
