[REL] Sweet Movie (1974)

Post by idler »   45 likes

Contemplating yesterday evenings ARTE - broadcast about the Vienna painter Otto Mühl, his AAO - commune and the children growing up in Friedrichshof, I made up my mind to post this stuff, produced by - god knows why - Canada. So what can you expect from a movie with Carole Laure ("Préparez vos mouchoirs!") and Otto Mühl? I hope you ate already...

This is no reflection on idler, but I didn't like this film at all. I downloaded this in February and didn't post it because of that. I have the Criterion version shared if anyone wants it.

Another cover pic:

Pushing his themes of sexual liberation to their boiling point, Yugoslavian art-house provocateur Dusan Makavejev followed his international sensation WR: Mysteries Of The Organism with this full-throated shriek in the face of bourgeois complacency and movie watching. Sweet Movie tackles the limits of personal and political freedom with kaleidoscopic feverishness, shuttling viewers from a gynecological beauty pageant to a grotesque food orgy with scatological, taboo-shattering glee. With its lewd abandon and sketch-comedy perversity, Sweet Movie became both a cult staple and an exemplar of the envelope pushing of 1970s cinema.
I was less than thrilled with the cover-everybody-with-food-and-puke scene, the men-taking-a-dump-on-a-plate-in-front-of-a-crowd scene, etc. The whole thing was an attempt at maximum shock value but it was so over the top it was boring. The "boiling point" in my case was nothing but a distinct yawn, but like I said, to each their own... somebody liked this movie or it would have sunk into oblivion long ago.

Both of the above links are the Criterion version. I had a 700 MB VHS - version for 6 years, but quality was really poor...

Of course, the movie is of questionable taste - that's why I said I hoped everybody ate already...
On the other hand, it's a piece of contemporary history beyond doubt - even made a title story in "Der Spiegel", the German counterpart of "Time Magazine".

I spent some time in Amsterdam at the beginning of the 70th - in my time with the Federal German Navy - and I'm still fascinated of this morbid atmosphere - left wing city council, open drug scene, half a million people pretending to be an artist...

This movie, like "My Queen Karo", gives a rather accurate observation of this time.

Could you please post more info about the video? 1fichier are kind of a pain to download so it would be good to know how the video compares with what I already have *before* I download it.

Yes, I agree. I *do* appreciate all the files you have been sharing! A little more information can be helpful. Size and exact resolution are important (HD 720p or 1080p), in addition to the audio and subtitle information you already give. Screenshots would be great.

So something like this: "2.19Gb 720p English with optional French subtitles."

Specifications: [Code] I barely remember the film from some years ago, but it does NOT seem as if children play a significant part. This seems more off-topic to me than otherwise.

Sorry, I don't always have access to this information and in this case it is. And I had to download it a year ago and I deleted it without remembering...

Won't you tell us, where you got all these download links from?
You sometimes even add "I don't know this movie".
