Anyone know the song that was played during the dance scene? Tried recognising the lyrics and searching them - but never found anything. It looked like the Village People were playing on the screen in the bar - but don't think it's a song by them.DaveTheBoss wrote: Sat May 11, 2024 4:57 pmFor my part, it's the dance scene, more smiling, more sensual and more lively.throwme12 wrote: Thu May 09, 2024 5:31 am Livia's shower scene is just spectacular... Re: Livia Russo
Good luck to find it, especially if it's not the composer of the film who created this musical moment. I have the same problem with Nighthawks (1981) in the nightclub scene, impossible to find the origin of the song when Sylvester Stallone and Billy Dee Williams walk towards Wulfgar, the badguy. I gave up on finding itDavid32441 wrote: Sat May 11, 2024 5:11 pm Anyone know the song that was played during the dance scene? Re: Livia Russo
That is what I suggested was the most likely case: it was written for the film. Those Italian film composers of the olden days were called upon to create many different styles of music, and did so very well.DaveTheBoss wrote: Sat May 11, 2024 7:50 pm Good luck to find it, especially if it's not the composer of the film who created this musical moment.
Do you mean the first part of this video clip?I have the same problem with Nighthawks (1981) in the nightclub scene
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1Twukgzq84
("Nighthawks (1981) - Disco Bloodbath Scene")
Or in the second part of this scene?

("Nighthawks (1981) - DaSilva finds Wulfgar in a nightclub")
If so, the Youtube music credit includes the obvious Rolling Stones "Brown Sugar" for the first part, and what they call PNOY "Nighthawks" for the second part. Searching that leads to nothing but it sounds like PNOY is an alias for a music combo brought together by the film composer Keith Emerson. The name of the song on the Keith Emerson movie soundtrack is ACTUALLY "I'm a Man".
Full song here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0lmpGyhkys
Vocals by Keith Emerson and written by Jimmy Miller and Steve Winwood.
Emerson and Winwood were well known musicians particularly in the 1970s.

It just goes to show that, sometimes, it's better for me to shut my mouthNight457 wrote: Sat May 11, 2024 10:12 pm Full song here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0lmpGyhkys

But then you would not have found out what you wanted to know!
I have some skill at searching things online ... and also some luck. I am too lazy to have pulled out my "Nighthawks" Blu to search out that scene, but other people found the scene worth clipping and putting on YouTube. If they had not, my search would have ended there. (Yeah, I like the movie too.)

From the entrance to the nightclub, to the chase on the subway, to the Billy Dee Williams's injury, I love this breathless sequence... We are almost in real time while 12 minutes... well before Jack Bauer in 24

Given it was a song with english lyrics then I was guessing it would be a chart song - not written for the film.DaveTheBoss wrote: Sat May 11, 2024 7:50 pmGood luck to find it, especially if it's not the composer of the film who created this musical moment. ... You may not have noticed that for Nighthawks, I identified the song, performer and composers a few posts back ... athough maybe you are referencing Emanuelle's Daughter instead.
But I am not sure I agree with your logic anyway. Pop songs written for film will be in pop song style, and as you noticed those songs are often in English to reach a wider international audience. I have seen my share of 70s Italian contemporary and even period films where the composer successfully (?) mimics specifically American music styles with English lyrics, like Country Western music. It was less expensive to pay their own composer than to argue over songwriting royalties due in another market for an existing song when they wanted that market for their film.
Check out this song written by film composer Nico Fidenco for "Emanuelle in Bangkok":

I still insist the Emanuelle music was much better than the films ...

Still no sign of it outside the movie, darnit. If only they had dared to put that movie in the Severin box set, then the music might have been part of the included CD soundtracks and it would have been properly credited. But nope, that one movie was too much for them to handle so we do not get to hear that song in its entirety in a clean recording.
These are the song tracks that made it to the 2cd set from the movies actually in the BluRay set:

If one more BluRay would have made too much music to fit on those 2cds, they could have cut out some of the dialog snippets to make room for more actual songs. I have seen a number of the Emanuelle films ... and I did not find the DIALOG especially memorable.
