Thank you for the detailed suggestions, pillowbaker! I have a few comments.

Going back to 4.3.9 from October 2021 seems a bit absurd because that is SO old. I can believe a recent update could be the problem (it is currently 4.6.4) but there is no reason to go back THAT far! I have been nagged forever about the security value in keeping software UPDATED, particularly anything that uses the Internet. (I don't think I need to update Avidemux.)
Most software I now have set to auto-update because I know from experience that I am too lazy to do it manually with any frequency. Of course I CAN NOT update eMule, but I guess malware doesn't afflict that? :?

I have suspicions of ISP auto-throttling just because I am naturally suspicious. (Or "paradoid" as I said earlier.) I had wondered if changing a port setting might help! I do remember that I specifically set a forwarded port for the torrent to work with my VPN, and for the torrent client to stop entirely if the VPN is shut off. It worked fine for quite some time after that change. I have not made those same settings on the new torrent client yet, because I have to look up how I did it! I suspect it SHOULD run more efficiently with a forwarded port.

In my old qbittorrent I also have the "Use UPnP/NAT-pmp forwarding from my router" setting clicked ON. I wonder if I should UNclick it because the port forwarding is actually from my VPN? It wasn't a problem before.

I made sure the firewall exceptions were correct, although usually that is something set correctly during software installation.

I was getting low speeds from new YTS torrents with dozens of Seeders, which typically take 10 minutes to less than an hour to download. I KNEW something was wrong when they were crippled with speeds that made them take DAYS.

Right now I am using uTorrent because it is working, although the first thing I did was look up how to remove the noxious video advertising. When I have time I will go back and play with qBittorrent to see if I can bring it back ... to ... speed.

Good Torrent alternatives are TiXATI and especially it's P2P component, FOPNU, which has a lot of OT focused users. I also have Deluge and the Soulseek replacement NicotinePlus, which is a big improvement because it has a better Wishlist function, it's more active.

Then what do you use to get those Bluetoothed 20GB+ music videoclips? (Yes, I jest... but not by much) That Usenet thing? Newsgroups? Soulseek? Cos ed2k does not really offer those.

Soulseek was great! I am glad it got an upgrade.
I think you are making up those words "TiXATI" and "FOPNU". I will have to check them out.

Ghost does use Usenet, I know that. And it reportedly has full disk remuxes.

I use torrents, but it's not my priority. I have a debrid account (it's about 4 euros a month) and can use most of the paid hosters for free with full speed.

It was new to me too.
These are generally paid services (with some giving free trials) where you can enter a premium link or torrent link to it and it will generate a direct download link for you.

No paid service can compete with the 3000 unwatched movies, hundreds of them OT, sitting on my 3,5 inchers and looking at me sideways giving me the queer eye, generally or not ....

Ohhh but isn't the constant hunting for MORE MORE MORE just so compelling? Just keep adding to the stockpile.

It's almost as much fun as watching them. Well that's not true, but it's hard to resist seeking out more.

Night, how has your qBit been working? Your speeds back up and consistent?

I also have at least 1000 unwatched downloads accumulated and I don't expect to watch them all in my lifetime. I do not use debrid accounts, Usenet, computer BluRay drives and ripping software, professional downloaders or video editing software and the like -- but I know those who do. I recognize that the only reason I HAVE many of my files in the first place is because of the various paid tools and services that other people use to acquire the files before they reshare them for free. I am a suckerfish and am very grateful to my hosts.

I have been using uTorrent without issues and have not had reason to try qBit again. It is still installed.
