Charlize Theron can pick-up where she left off on Fury Road in the next installation [and there WILL be another Furiosa movie] and the Mad Max universe will continue on it's merry [or furious] way...
kev.
Well Mr. kev, I am certainly hoping that you are right about this. Considering how well the movie has done in the box office versus how much effort it takes to film them, as well as the future budget required to create the sensational vehicle action sequences, I wonder if a company large enough to produce it would be willing to do so without major constraints. I appreciate how the Mad Max movies are willing to do things their own way, I don't want to see that change.
Regarding how poorly it did in the box office, I am just as bewildered, but then, maybe not so much at the same time. I definitely wanted to see this movie, but then I ask myself, how often am I willing to go to the theaters anymore? I have been curious as to speculation on why this happened on a normally major commercially successful time of the year (in the US).
I can't speak much to your idea as the reason why, Sully. I am not disagreeing or disregarding it. But I think maybe it also has to do with the general ways people are willing to watch their movies, the current cost of going to a theater (in the US, in many areas, it is what many would consider to be high cost), and general attitudes towards "Prequels". I have also read ONE article that stated the reason could also be that there's no Max in it to begin with.
I am in agreement with you guys; to have AI-CG de-aged Charlize might have made an uncanny concoction of a character. I ended up highly enjoying Anna Taylor-Joy and I was
enchanted by Alyla. Some who have left their thoughts online have felt Anna was too stiff or expressionless, to which I would argue that her character had to manage that due to her circumstances in the harsh realities of life in the strongholds of the Wasteland. You know what they say, sometimes creativity can flourish under constraints and limitations. I think she did amazing with the role. And as kev noted, I did see a lot of fans of the series enjoyed her role and the film.
