Ouch.

Over 1000 now. But this one I would surely watch again someday. Surreal dreamy story in an all-girls school.

Movies from Lucile Hadzihalilovic are always worth to watch (at least for me).

She made La bouche de Jean-Pierre and Earwig.

Cause these days I gotta be picky what to download & put on my list :D

..but who am I fooling…I‘ll probably end up with a folder of hundreds of films „to watch“ like @Night :O :P

It's a pretty unique film about a boarding school for girls. The new students arrive in coffins, from which their roommates remove them. It appears the girls are taken and brought there rather than being sent by their families. We don't know where they come from, what this school is, where or when it is. Attempts to escape are punished, possibly by death. Escapees never come back and are not allowed to be spoken of again. At age 13 the students graduate and leave - what happens to them afterward none of them really know. It's an odd mix of weird institutional culture, moments of fun and normalcy, and a sometimes menacing atmosphere with an uncertain future hanging over the girls. Definitely worth your while.

I don't download every movie posted here. And I made a rule for myself: Watch at least 1 movie per day. ;)

I love this movie. I've lost track of how many times I've watched it at this point. I even bought the book the film is loosely based on. There was also another movie inspired by the book, but it didn't look very interesting, and the women looked pretty old.

Props to this movie being daring and provocative. Something like this could never be made in the US. Honestly, not sure it could be made in any Western country in today's climate.

In a weird way, the movie almost reminds me of the old tv series Lost, in the sense that there are a lot of intriguing questions and mysteries presented throughout the film. Thankfully, since this is just one feature length film, it doesn't feel the need to go for 10 seasons and provide tons of dull answers to those intriguing questions. Although, if it did become some kind of Degrassi meets Lost style series with a rotating cast I'd probably watch it.

Anyway, there's probably very little I could say that hasn't been said. I'd wager it's one of the most popular films here. I love Lucile Hadžihalilović. This and Le Bouche de Jean-pierre are two of my favorites. Although I've not seen the other movie that was mentioned by Ghost called "Earwig", I will have to check it out. I'm not a fan of the insect by the same name.

Long story short, Alice is my favorite character:

I think it could be made in the U.S.A. since it would be more of a childish tone than the dark tone of Lucile Hadžihalilović, the problem is there are no directors or studios that would finance such a project, if it were to happen is perhaps the pond scene, the inmates would wear bikinis that would look like a trip to summer camp.

You've got me brainstorming what a US adaptation would be like and now I am picturing something like Hunger Games / Mazerunner back when all the YA movie adaptations were the hot thing in Hollywood. Hard to say if I'd end up liking it, but if they kept the girls the same age I'd probably still watch it /shrug

Of course I would keep the casting of the girls the same age, something like Disney Channel, other times if they are looking for a more adult casting I can imagine Maisie Williams and Anya Taylor-Joy in a shower scene.
