Spoiler:Night457 wrote: Sat Jun 22, 2024 11:22 pmI'd love to have all the pics in my preview grids uploaded directly to the board so I never have to reup them again. But I don't want all the thumbnails and all the larger images in a long single file column...
I might be misunderstanding you, but here goes: If your image is a thumbnail grid such as can be generated by MPC, that also counts as a single image and will be displayed as such when posted as an Attachment. The one disadvantage of Attachment images is that smaller images can NOT be rearranged in a self-created grid as can be done with PostImage. As far as I can tell, you can NOT have 3 individual small images in a line across the screen left-to-right.* The next successive image will be on the next "line" down no matter its size. They can be positioned where you want them in the post but they can not display left to right, unless you go through the tediousness of joining multiple images into one single image using Paint or the like. (I don't suggest doing that work.)
*But hey if admin or Admin knows better, speak up or PM me.
Yes, I'm talking about the 3 x (usually) 5 grids of preview pics I tend to post with my releases. Each of the small images can be clicked on to open a full sized one in another tab. I tried replacing the hotlinked images from the third party host with ones added to the post as attachments. It didn't work so well. And I couldn't stop them from all being repeated one by one at the end of the post under "Attachments".
So you're saying there's definitely no way to take this:
[Image] [Image] [Image]
[Image] [Image] [Image]
[Image] [Image] [Image]
[Image] [Image] [Image]
and substitute attached images while keeping the same display format?

Re: Posting Images
We have implemented FLM image uploader (FLiM)* -- a replacement of postimage for FLM. It is currently in test
phase. You can find the link in the usual place below the post text area.

Re: Posting Images
Oh heck yeah. THANK YOU mimzy. We gonna make FLM nice and spiffy again!

This method generates thumbnails that will click-open into larger images in a separate tab. They can be arranged top-to-bottom by default, or jammed together in post editing to make a left-to-right grid.
Great job, mimzy!

Are you still watching this thread, deadman? You gotta check this out!
Re: Posting Images
Note that it is also possible to embed full size images. The uploader normally generates bbcode with full size image ID and thumbnail ID:
[Code] [Image]
But this can be edited to embed full size image directly:

Re: Posting Images
Aha! So that technique essentially mimics the post appearance of using an Attachment with its larger post images, but they are NOT thumbs that will open into a new tab if clicked.
Note: mimzy's example is a 480p image so it is blown up larger than full size.
Here is a 1080p example as both a thumb and then large-sized in the post.

Re: Posting Images
Nice to see something being rolled out!
I have a few questions. What are those image IDs? Are they attachments or do I need to use that Plupload app? And can you set the size of the thumbnails to anything you want?

Thanks for doing the work last weekend, mimzy. It works perfect!
But I think I'll still use attachments for full size images. It is easier to use.

Re: Posting Images
This has nothing to do with attachments. Once you upload an image, you are given an ID like in case of any upload service. For example in case of https://www.imagebam.com/view/MEUK7IO the ID would be MEUK7IO. The [flim] bbcode is just a shortcut, so you don't have to enter the full URL. Just to avoid confusion, you don't have to install any "apps". Plupload is just a free software library that we use. And the new image uploader is a service of FLM and does not contain any hidden catches.deadman wrote: Mon Jul 08, 2024 5:54 pm I have a few questions. What are those image IDs? Yes, but I want to keep it simple and use a single size. If you need other size, you can upload custom thumbnails and edit the bbcode accordingly. If the majority of users want another default thumbnail size, we can change it.deadman wrote: Mon Jul 08, 2024 5:54 pm And can you set the size of the thumbnails to anything you want?
As you know, images are uploaded to the cloud, but attachments are currently saved on system disk with limited size. I think attachments should be used for smaller things like subtitles. But posting a small number of images as attachments is not a problem.ghost wrote: Mon Jul 08, 2024 6:26 pm But I think I'll still use attachments for full size images. It is easier to use.
Uploaded images and attachments are both safe. Even if the cloud account should be terminated, we can find another provider and restore the images from local backup.
