A small Italian village is shaken by inexplicable violent episodes that seem to happen at every full moon: a wild animal is killing livestock and the farmers are desperate. Little Orazio notices the mysterious behavior of his older brother Giacomo. In his eyes, his brother appears very strange due to his obsession with the moon. Giacomo is in the midst of adolescence and rebellion, his eyes seek the warmth that he cannot find in the cold and austere family environment. The object of his love is Silvia, a peasant girl whom Giacomo has the opportunity to meet during the sporadic outings in the carriage. When the bloodlust of the "beast" - so nicknamed by the villagers - falls on the first human victim, a hunter from the mountains sets out to find him in the woods and in the country. He researches that, in parallel, Horace is carrying out towards his brother before him, and then his ancestors, rediscovering the dark and nebulous past of his family. Meanwhile, every full moon, a death is added going to swell the river of blood: it is now a race against time for an investigation that will culminate in a revelation that Horace is unable to accept.
