But it's not crazy hormones or unrequited love that torment him. His biggest problem is called the Italian Communist Party. The party of his father - local manager and probable future regional secretary - and of his mother, delegated for the orthodox education of her children: no religion, no Reebook, no Rambo, no Nintendo. In practice: no social life. Apart from Renato, Enrico's only friend, also the son of communists (his father dead due to too much political passion and his mother alive but no less passionate) who at twelve years old dresses and talks like a sixty-year-old official. He really believes in communism. Enrico on the other hand would just like to be like the others. In the summer, going to the seaside, for example, and not hanging out with your father, to convince your classmates that the change desired by the secretary, the abandonment of the hammer and sickle, is now inevitable. He would do anything to avoid it, including running away. The two of them go camping, far from smoky sections and abusive cousins. Not a normal campsite, no: they will re-establish the Pioneers, the old communist scouts who have been extinct for decades. And everything would go smoothly if on the way to escape they didn't meet Vittorio, a classmate who failed several times and was abusive and who joined the enterprise; and Margherita, also on the run from her mother, an American soldier from the nearby NATO base, and from a real scout camp. Four kids with very little in common except the need to escape. From the American soldiers and a mother who wants to take you away, from the carabinieri and another quartet, as ill-matched as theirs: Enrico's very quarrelsome parents, Renato's intransigent mother and Vittorio's very fascist father. To achieve this, Enrico, Renato, Vittorio and Margherita must remain united, because if you can't go back you can't help but move forward. Even if it's scary.
