Just to get rid of all the Dakota Fanning fans, I'm opening a new thread for the original movie.
This is a DVD-rip:
1:27 h
XVID 1272 kb/s
544 x 416 4/3 25 fps
As you may assume for a French-Italian co-production, the dubbing is in German... No, emuler, I don't know where to find subs... @ redcat, do you have any info about Jade Malle? Despite her 3 movies I couldn't find anything but the year of birth, 1975. Seems to be one of Louis Malle's "irregular" children he "produced" in the Seventies (before he produced "Pretty Baby").

No subs needed here :) .......High quality TV rip with ENGLISH AUDIO!

I'll echo idler's sentiments..........this version is far superior to the hyped-up Dakota Fanning offering & Jade Malle is just SO CUTE! :drool

Wow! Dave! After 15 years...

Thanks for bumping and the links. I can't remember this movie at all.
I know the remake from 2004, but not this one.

YES!!!! Thank you Dave!! I went straight for the REMUX because I *do* remember this (mostly) and I know I like it. I also like the 2004 Tony Scott / Denzel / Dakota version and maybe even more, but this one is less visually pretentious. I have seen both fairly recently in the past few years rather than decades ago, so maybe that is why I still remember them both. But this one I do not have on BluRay, so I am delighted!

(*And if I can believe my directory of external drive content, this is one of the movies I likely lost at the beginning of the year ... so I NEED a new copy!)

Never heard of this one, grabbing it now. Thanks DaveTheBoss. I think I might skip the newer version, unless of course, this one leaves me wanting more! ;)

If you have NOT already seen the 2004 version, I highly recommend that one too.
Spoiler:

It IS the version that was hugely successful, and I like it enough to watch it multiple times. If a person has an issue with Denzel or Dakota, I suppose that is a reason to avoid it. But I assume that it is only irrational crackpots like me who go out of the way to shun particular actors. My dissing of Tony Scott's visual style is mostly me being an iconoclastic grump, although it is informed by it being a popularly (ab)used style of the era. (Often by less talented directors.) One concern for some viewers may be that the 2004 version is more grimly violent, although in a sytlized and flashy style later used by Liam Neeson in "Taken" and also in my own Korean favorite "Man From Nowhere". The violence should not be much of a surprise given the premise.
Funny bit of IMDB trivia on the 1987 version:
Tony Scott was originally slated to direct. But the studio balked because at the time they felt he was not accomplished enough to pull off the project. He would go on to direct the second adaptation Man on Fire (2004).
There is a problem with believing that trivia. Over a year before the release of ManOnFire1987, Tony Scott issued the little B-movie known as "Top Gun" with the virtually unknown Tom Cruise. How much more accomplished did he need to be?? And a few months before ManOnFire1987, he came out with "Beverly Hills Cop II". That would be the project he did INSTEAD of ManOnFire1987. Either the trivia is total BS or movie studio execs are morons.
