From the synopsis it should be no surprise that this is a musical, and the plot turns on a version of the "Let's put on a SHOW!" storyline done many times in Hollywood and elsewhere. It manages to combine that with the "Let's go to COURT!" storyline and the show is put on before a grumpy old trial judge. ~10-year-old SHIRLEY TEMPLE demonstrates a more mature singing voice that is much improved over her cutesy, goopy baby-talk voice of earlier years. Her dancing is still terrific. An orphan is provisionally adopted by the manager of a hotel populated by show-business people. The hotel's owner doesn't like the entertainers and wants the girl returned to the orphanage.
