Television Adverts

Post by Davros6 »   0 likes

Don't know if we have a section for this, but i thought i'd share one of my current favourites on uk tv.

I'm currently having a partial digital detox (no smartphone/computor/tablet just a nokia with a basic internet browser so no youtube to see if this is on there)
it's for a british pet shop/vets called Pets at Home.it starts off with a cute young girl (who i think is welsh) whose parents are buying her a rat/mouse, she says "he's gorgeous!" there's then clips of other families with pets, she shows up again part way through with her parents and new pet. It's a very good advert, showing peoples love for their pets, using a very suitable song with that in mind (i won't spoil it by telling you the song if you haven't seen it, but it's a very well known song) hopefully someone might be able to find the video on youtube and post a link. i've included a picture of the girl that i found.[Image]

I think her accent is one of the many British-English ones, but not Welsh. But she only says two words so I don't know!

i'm not sure if you're from the uk or not, but i'm from england and she does seen to have a bit of a welsh "twang" to her accent, but then again i might be wrong :D

Oops, sorry! I know better than to argue with an Englishman about English accents because that would be silly. You are surely right!

(The only Welsh accent I know that I know would be the late Terry Jones of Monty Python.)

See if you can find a clip of the character gladys pugh from the british sitcom hi-de-hi she was welsh. seems to have a similar twang.
i can't say much, if you've ever heard sean bean talking in his native accent, i'm from around that sort of area :D

A phrase to describe the girl in the advert?
"she's gorgeous!" :D

"Gladys Pugh" = Ruth Madoc in real life. I listened to an interview with her and clips from Hi-de-hi, and I have definitely heard that kind of accent before.

I checked out Sean Bean on British TV, to be sure he was not dropping HIS accent like he might on an American show.

When I think of movies set in Wales, the one that sticks in my head is "How Green Was My Valley". Yet the lead actors in it are from London, Yorkshire, Lancashire, Ireland, Scotland, Canada, and the U.S.! I can not trust any accent in it except for the Welsh Singers!

Ah, wait: John Rhys-Davies! He's Welsh. (And was in at least one movie with Sean Bean, how about that?) I had to force myself to STOP listening to interviews with John, whether he was softening his accent or not.
