Ein Kriminalkommissar befindet sich auf dem Weg an die Ostsee. Stück für Stück rekonstruiert er dabei die Hintergründe eines tragischen Autounfalls, den er zunächst für eine Phantasie der kleinen, unbekannten Tagebuchschreiberin hält. Eine seltsame Faszination geht von den festgehaltenen Ereignissen aus. Genau wie er befand sich das Mädchen auf dem Weg in den Urlaub. Allein, ohne die verhinderte Mutter, genießen Vater und Tochter unbeschwerte Ferientage.

Doch die perfekte Harmonie wird gestört, als der Vater eine junge, attraktive Seglerin kennenlernt. Plötzlich steht sie im Mittelpunkt seiner Aufmerksamkeit. Beide unterschätzen die Gefühle des Mädchens, das die Romanze mit zunehmender Feindseligkeit beobachtet. Von nun an steuert das Geschehen seinem tödlichen Höhepunkt zu. Während eines Radwechsels erreicht den Vater ein Anruf seiner Frau. Inzwischen setzt sich seine Urlaubsbekanntschaft ahnungslos in das Auto, um ein paar Besorgungen zu machen. Das Mädchen hindert sie nicht daran. Was dann geschieht, entzieht sich ihrer Kontrolle ..

A criminal commissioner is on his way to the Baltic Sea. Little by little he reconstructs the background of a tragic car accident, which he first considers to be the imagination of the little, unknown diary clerk.
