I think Hollywood gave up on attempting actual scares decades ago. At best they go for comedic horror and at worst they substitute cruelty and grisliness for frightfulness. IMHO and with all due respect.

To be honest, in Italy they don't know how to do the horror genre any better, but Dario Argento is the only one who has managed to make excellent horror films in the past, there's his daughter Asia Argento who is a good actress.
