[REL] Hong ying tao AKA Red Cherry (1995)
Re: [REL] Hong ying tao AKA Red Cherry (1995)
I've uploaded the original NTSC DVD. Don't expect a high quality picture.

Thanks ghost. I had not heard of this one but it looks like it has a great response from members here.

Dam you're right! Don't think this can even push this to 720p. It's got mpeg noise despite being 4.2gb and pretty low resolution. And yeah, starting from a non widescreen enhanced 480p is going to look pretty poor. And it's not a good quality negative they sourced either!ghost wrote: Sat May 13, 2023 5:31 pm I've uploaded the original NTSC DVD. Don't expect a high quality picture.

There might be a way to take the Chinese TV version which is an awful 1080p clean that to 720p and replace the cut scenes with the decent version - but the Chinese Tv version is covered in so many logos it's not a good source! I also noticed aliasing lines in the officers cap at 1h33m12s proving that it was probably a 720p or lower bad upscale, and of course the HDTV quality has some blocking noise. It has surprisingly little extra detail vs the DVD.
Can only hope another version appears one day.

Well, the trailer that maria2012 posted suggests that it might get a rerelease in theaters and online.

This looks like a decent print too! Can see it's so much better than the upscale that aired on Chinese TV. Hope it leads to a new quality release, and one outside China so it's not censored. Surprising the tamer scenes and violence are in that trailer though, and the trailer has minor spoilers.ghost wrote: Sat May 13, 2023 5:10 pmI am really looking forward to see this version of this old classic. Thanks for the heads up!maria2012 wrote: Sat May 13, 2023 11:12 am The film's director had cut a new re-edited trailer of the film, and uploaded it on social media in China. He also implied that he has a director's cut in his hand.

Thanks, ghost.
It's a little surreal to see that this is still a viable link, super fast downloads. I recommend this version, because it's without the stupid voice-overs!!! Such a relief!
Its already on ed2k (3 versions, one in split CD). The 1,52GB MKV there does too, have the ugly russian voice-overs
It's on Ulozto.net too.
ps took me longer to type this, than the download ....
But yeah, I don't like bloated videos. Sure, i's not 4K, but who cares?
Anyway, I suppose that this is a typical case of "To each, his own". Peace.

The DVD quality of this encode is shocking though. It's low resolution NTSC and soft. It was watchable 15-20 years ago - but now it's horrendous. That new 4 minute trailer shows how much sharper this film can look. Just been on the Cera thread and other where people aren't interested in "down-scaled" 1080pTriela wrote: Sat Aug 19, 2023 9:29 am Thanks, ghost. It's a little surreal to see that this is still a viable link, super fast downloads. It is always a pleasure to eMule! I am guessing that ghost's original upload might have been a VIDEO_TS folder, but what I have saved is remuxed to an MKV per my preference. (Maybe that is what ghost uploaded, I don't remember.) Fast-forwarding reduces the image to digital blockiness but standard playback is fine. The English subtitles are hardcoded.
