Not criticizing your preference to convert to MKV - I have does it too sometimes. However, just pointing out that many modern video players can play the DVD right from the folder or ISO allowing continuous play without stopping at the end of each VOB.Alex_kaplan wrote: Thu Nov 21, 2024 3:55 pm I also always convert to MKV versions of DVD5-9 downloaded from different resources, as it is more pleasant to watch a movie in its entirety than in parts

I didn't understand what Alex was actually saying until your response, DreamScape. Absolutely! If you have a folder of Video_TS files, open the FOLDER with VLC or MPC and it will play the contents as a DVD with menu.
My own reason for converting to MKV is that I play downloaded videos with an external hard drive connected to my BluRay player. It plays disks, and it plays video files like MKV. It does not play ISO files or Video_TS folders. I also have lost interest in disk menus entirely as they mostly are time wasters. I just need the Audio & Subtitle buttons on the remote! If I were playing back solely on the computer then I probably would not bother making the MKV conversion and I would tolerate the disk menu.

Thanks for the explanation, I've never tried it that way, - okay, I'll give it a try, - I used to open the contents folder and watch the movie in partsNight457 wrote: Thu Nov 21, 2024 9:58 pm I didn't understand what Alex was actually saying until your response, DreamScape. But to save anywhere, of course, it is better to convert to MKV

why only that resolution? if a DVD is widescreen enhanced - and most are then you can resize to 1000x600 aprox and keep the vertical resolution. But multiplying out the horizontal resolution.DreamScape wrote: Thu Nov 21, 2024 7:06 am Found this on usenet. It includes English subtitles but they seem a little late so I moved them forward by about a second and a half in the attachment.

I see NIght has posted DVD rip files - I can have a go at a 720p upscale - unless Ghost is doing one? From a NTSC DVD anything more than 720p is gonna look a bit fake for me.

If the picture quality of a NTSC DVD is good enough, you can even go up to 1080p. I don't know which version of Video AI you're using, but with the latest versions and models it's working pretty well.

It's a weird looking film so I won't. The kids don't appear to be central characters. Night's file is actually a mkv not the DVD ISO - and is of higher quality than the other version at least - so a watchable resolution
