This new digital transfer was created in 4k resolution on a Northlight film scanner from the 35 mm original camera negative.

Blu-ray mastering: Radius 60, Los Angeles

Criterion does not lie about their disc scanning sources, but if you go to the forums at https://www.blu-ray.com/ you will find plenty of members bitching about their disc compression standards.

I don't have the later blu-ray release by Second Run (UK), so I can not compare.

You are wrong. Jaroslava Schallerová did not marry Petr Kopriva (the main actor), but rather Petrem Poradou, an extra (he was a sports gymnast).

I'm not sure if the article I saw got the last name wrong, or if I assumed Petr Kopriva must be the Petr she met on the set of this movie and married. Either way you're right. Her husband's name is Petr Porada. Thanks for spotting the error!
