I tend to agree now. It's probably wrong. I'm not sure why I adopted Walter Mathieu's date. It may have been the fact that IMDb adopted it, and I figured they wouldn't do so without good reason. It was a while ago.
The May 17th, 1963 date is consistent with Dawn being 16 during filming as she's always claimed, as well as 44 in 2007 when that article was written - which is why I assume that DOB is almost certainly the correct one. It's also what has been listed online for many years. But who can say for sure. I'm not 100% certain of my own date of birth - what if my parents lied to me, how would I know?
I am undecided between October 1962 and May 1963 (both are consistent). On myheritage.com I found a Dawn Dunlap born in Austin in 1962, who knows if it is her (I do not have an account there so I cannot check the document).
I found recently an interesting interview from 1979 to Paris Match (id=QphOAQAAIAAJ on Google Books. There are only snippets but I managed to reconstruct it in full). Unfortunately, even in this one her age is not revealed, but all the details of how Hamilton chose her for the film are given.
Here is the excerpt (original in French):
I have the 1080p version of Laura and it looks great but something about the VHS quality seems to add another quality to Hamilton's films that would be nice to have as an option. With Bilitis in particular the 1080p copy looks so clean (contrary to my 1080p copy of Laura which has a grainy look that I like) so I'm sometimes more drawn to the VHS version, and now it makes me curious how Laura looks in VHS format.
I have that file of Un ete a Saint-Tropez. It looks great and fits well with Hamilton's aesthetic... soft lens, soft resolution... I think there is a DVD quality copy of Saint-Tropez but I don't have it to compare to the VHS copy right now. I do have the 1080p and VHS file of Bilitis and it's good to compare them. The VHS version again fits well with Hamilton's style. The file is around 4gbs and is one of those "TS" files - meaning it's split into several parts.
Anyway back to Laura, on the first page of this thread ghost made a post... 20 years ago... sharing the VHS rip of Laura. But 1) it's a German rip so I'm assuming German audio (?) which is far from ideal, and 2) It's an emule link and I haven't quite got that program working yet despite my efforts (maybe I have got it working but possibly the file itself being so old is no longer being shared which would be perfectly understandable).
That is just CRAZY! Believe it or not I did look in eMule / torrents / streaming --- but I did not think to look for the German title, nor did I think to look at the first page of THIS thread. {face palm} The title does not indicate VHS but your description does. With all the files I found of DVD and BluRay rips, it is amazing that a VHSrip is still shared.

I've uploaded the German VHS-Rip:

Brilliant! Thanks so much, can't ask for more than that. Shame there is probably no French or English version in existence but I can't have everything. Even the quality of the German dub has something romantic and nostalgia about it with it's crackling and lower clarity, similar to how the lesser quality effects the visuals.
I think for Laura the VHS and Bluray rip both offer worthy experiences of their own. The DVD version on the other hand is essentially just a lower quality Bluray so you may aswell opt for Bluray if choosing between those two options.
I tend to find that VHS quality adds to the experience only in rare cases like for certain horror movies made in the 70s or 80s.. and now apparently for Hamilton's hazy softcore movies too

Don't worry about it, I wouldn't expect anyone to look through all 17 pages of this thread looking for decade old rips like I did!
I saw Anja Schüte's name in the cast list of IMDb, but could not identify her anywhere in the movie. Could any of you help me locate her on the movie? At what timestamp does she appear? https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0079449/fullcredits/
