I liked being reassured that “Gregory Peck was just the gentleman you imagine him to be." It is at least believable from someone who admits that some in the movie business are NOT gentlemen.

Katya Berger was born on 13 December 1966 in London, England. She is the daughter of Hugh Russell Bebb and Croatian singer and actress Hanja Kochansky. She is the step-daughter of veteran Austrian actor William Berger.

Hanja Kochansky est originaire de Yougoslavie (Croatie, aujourd’hui), où elle naît en 1937. Durant la deuxième guerre mondiale, elle se réfugie en Italie. Elle n’a alors que 6 ans. Elle rencontre son premier époux, Hugh Bebb, en Afrique du Sud où elle vivait depuis la fin des années 40. Ils ont ensemble une fille, la comédienne Katya Berger, en 1966.
Au début des années 70, la trentenire écrit le livre féministe Freely Female: Women’s sexual Fantasies, étudié dans certaines universités américaines. Elle y explore les fantasmes sexuels de la femme. L’ouvrage s’écoule à 250 000 exemplaires aux USA. Avec l’argent gagné, elle part arpenter les USA avec sa fille.

Quand Hanja Kochansky quitta le Royaume-Uni pour s’installer en Italie, elle passe d’une vie mondaine à une autre. William Berger qu’elle rencontre à Londres à ce moment-là, sert de transition charismatique à ces deux vies. Avec la vedette de Keoma, elle a un second enfant, Kasimir Berger, en 1974. C’est durant cette grossesse, en août 1974, qu’elle va poser nue pour la photographe féministe Ida Kar. La photo culte a été exposée à la National Portrait Gallery. Elle est profondément amoureuse de la star du western spaghetti, mais l’acteur américain est volage et ouvert aux expériences plurielles.

Avec William Berger, elle bâtit une communauté en Sardaigne. C’est l’ère des hippies et leur projet rencontre un succès considérable, avec des milliers de jeunes gens qui s’installent pour profiter d’une vie à l’écart de la civilisation. Le retour à la réalité est difficile et elle décide de rentrer à Rome où elle multiplie les projets artistiques dans différents domaines, y compris le cabaret (le one-woman show autobiographique Story of a Life in 21 Songs). Las des infidélités de son charmeur de mari, elle décide de le quitter pour mener une vie plus stable.

I think it's not just a stage name, but rather that she was adopted by William Berger. In fact, this could be the reason why some sources say that William was her father (instead of stepfather) and that Debra Berger (who is William's daughter from a previous marriage) is her stepsister.

E' Katya Berger, figlia dell'attore William Berger attualmente impegnato nelle riprese di Cristoforo Colombo di Alberto Lattuada. Minuta, fragillna, un viso straordinariamente pulito in cui spiccano due grandi occhi verdi, vive con la famiglia un po' a Roma, un po' a Londra ed un po' in Sardegna dove il padre possiede una fattoria.

"Infatti. Si tratta di un libero adattamento dal libro ed è un po' in chiave grottesca, il personaggio è meno angosciato."
Tu, ragazza moderna, come giudichi II comportamento di Nana? Pensi che una ragazza oggi potrebbe agire nello stesso modo?
"Penso che tutto vada collocato al suo tempo, rapportato a quelle situazioni. Certo io non agirei in quel modo, ma forse in quel tempo e in quella situazione in cui si trovava, Nana non poteva comportarsi diversamente. Lei in fondo non aveva scelta."
Questo è stato il tuo ùltimo film in uscita, ma ce n'è anche un altro che hai fatto subito dopo?
"'Sì, c'è La luna nel rigagnolo (credo sia questo ti titolo italiano) di Jean Jacques Penis (l'autore,di Diva), con Gerard Depardteu e Nastassta Klnski. Depardleu (del quale interpretavo la sorella) mi ha fatto l'impressione di una straordinaria forza e sicurezza; Nastassla è stata molto carina perché quando sono arrivata io è venuta a salutarmi in camerino, voleva conoscere mi e farmi gli àuguri per il mio lavoro. E' stata commovente e gliene sono grata."
Ma tu continui a frequentare una qualche scuola, Insomma continui a studiare oppure hai lasciato?
"'No, non voglio rinunciare allo studio e anzi desidero frequentare gente che non sia esclusivamente dello spettacolo. Infatti per ora accetto solo ruoli o film che abbiano una certa importanza."
Il fatto che tu sia figlia di un attore certamente ti ha favorita, ma papà era favorevole o contrarlo a che tu Intraprendessi la stessa carriera?
"Oh, no, lui era favorevole e mi ha aiutata molto. Quando avevo dodici anni gli dissi ciò che volevo fare. Lui ne fu contento — allora eravamo In Sardegna — e mi portò a Roma e mi fece conoscere le persone giuste. E cosi feci subito una prima parte in un film."
E tu cosa pensi di tuo padre?
"Lo trovo eccezionale. Sempre. Sia adesso, sia quando ero bambina. Soffrivo molto per esemplo nel vederlo in certi ruoli drammatici, dove doveva battersi, o magari anche morire."

The year you state seems to fit perfectly with her physique, Katya with an onscreen body of 14y seemed not to fit in, she looked younger (if supposedly the filming could have been up to 2 years before the premiere), that would have been solved by now.
