Inspection, aka Проверка (Proverka)

:!: PLEASE DO NOT READ THE IMDB PLOT SYNOPSIS :!:
imdb link in spoiler tags, but don't bother till after you've watched

NON-SPOILER basic plot:
Social service workers go to a negligent family for a final check up on a little girl and possibly take her away. However, this time things unexpectedly seem a little different.

Although I have been away a while, I have come across some more FLM shorts and movies, some great and some decent. This is one of the best, and is tender and poignant as any short. Our main girl Masha has a wonderful and even believable performance in the face of her visit, and and is so darling as she navigates the whims of the inspectors.

Go ahead and grab this one for your collection, but if you're like me, you'll find it easier to just click the link at the bottom, sit back and calmly watch via youtube or VK.

The short features English hardsubs on all versions I've discovered on the web. They have a few mistakes, but are overall written fairly well.

Thank you pillowbaker. Are you surprised that I peeked at the Spoiler AND followed the link AND read the IMDB Synopsis despite your warning? Also, I am incapable of watching streaming videos while I am theoretically reading FLM and other sites, so the best I can manage is Bookmarking the video. Then weeks later, I have dozens more bookmarks added to my hundreds. (The only reason that is not thousands of bookmarks is because I started new, not using my bookmark backups when I changed computers a year ago.) I delete whole swaths of them if I can not remember why I bookmarked them. So actually, it is easier for me to click your eMule link! That does not get me to watch the video any faster, but at least I *have* the video. ... I am happy that you are now able to spend some more time with us here!

Of course, I will readily agree that one should watch as they please. :D My bookmark collection is a wild mess and been collecting for decades and I really don't often use them, though the bookmarks BAR I use significantly frequently.

As for reading the spoiler, I don't have the inclination to feel surprised, but I don't fault you for it as I understand your mod duties might require you to inspect some of the files and links shared here. Hopefully, you conveniently forget some of the details of the plot, because this is a good one.

This plot reminds me of another movie: Homeless to Harvard (2003)

What puzzles me is why these social workers expect a child to take on all the housework and go to school on time and maintain good grades at the same time?

Why are they being "taken away" and sent to a closed institution full of misery and abuse?

I think by this point that I can trust pillowbaker not to share anything banned. ;)
At most I needed to verify that an IMDB link was actually posted here.

It really was just my own curiosity. If someone says "Don't look!" then I just HAVE to look.
It is like being told, "You can not have any of these cookies until after dinner!

Thanks for this short, pillowbaker! I must admit, that I also took a short peek at the spoiler.
But I'm sure I'll have forgotten the contents by the time I watch it. ;)

I don't bookmark any videos. I download them right away, so I can watch them locally on my big TV.

It's a real joy to see you active again on FLM! :P

Sometimes I have to devote my bandwidth to other things, so I am disappointed if I can not load an ed2k link into eMule or a torrent link into a torrent client or a direct-download link into JD2 -- and then shut them down for later!

Thank you guys.

LOL next time, I won't make my warnings so tempting.

 Warning: please do not watch this tender, bittersweet short film!

Good point. Perhaps to enjoy this one, we may have to accept the film's premise. I personally have no knowledge of how social worker activity is conducted in another country during the time this one takes place. However,

Spoiler:

it would seem this institution for child and youth support is expecting, without confidence, Masha's mother to be the one to maintain the upkeep of the home, as well as staying on top of the child's progress in school, and not just Masha herself. At the very least, they need the mother to make an improvement to her own drinking situation. Without the unreliable mother doing this, I think the premise of this short implies that Masha herself realized that, without a perceivable improvement to her situation, she would be placed into state care, and this inspection was the last chance. Yeah, this might be much to expect a child of that age to do. But at the same time, I found the whole unfolding of the scene to be tender and bittersweet, I am easily able to overlook some things.

I think in the "system", they become "standardized" managers rather than humane rescuers, and management measures are usually "punishment" rather than care.

I can see that the two movies are very similar in the "inspection" part, the cold peeping and judgment, the performance-style coping check, which is just a tug-of-war to achieve their respective goals.
