If you want to know the meaning of the word "Generalissimo" it is an ancient term used to indicate a military rank of supreme command, that is, superior to all other commanders, within a state or a large part of it. It was a rank of the Byzantine army that, in the 10th century, was called δομεστικος των σχολων (school building).
