[REL] Paper Girls (2022 TV Series)
This series seems to be missing here. It's interesting science fiction.
Four young friends' paper routes are disrupted on Hell Day 1988, when they unknowingly time travel to 2019. While searching for a way home, they come face-to-face with their adult selves and learn how to work together to save the world.

Saw it. Well.. A LOT of it anyways, 4 1/2 episodes.. (Couldn't even finish the 5th episode..) Had to struggle through those I watched. (I think there's supposed to be 8 or 10 total. Don't really know, don't care...
)
I'm sure there are those that will love it, but the major problem with me is NONE of the girls looked under 16 yo.. To me they looked and acted 18+ and I just could not get invested completely. They might as well have been college 'kids' trying to earn some extra $$.
My reaction was sort of like how I felt about 'Yellowjackets' (and I LOVE Christina Ricci
); once you got the gist of the show, all the little subplots with the individual characters could NOT hold my attention because I really had no emotional investment with the 'individual characters'.... And NONE of them acted like real kids, um; teens.... (However, I will admit, I DID finish the whole first season; but couldn't work up the umph to even bother watching the subsequent seasons..)
As I said; it's ME. This didn't work for me. Others might love the show, but not me..
kev.

All the girls were between 13 and 15 during filming. Even
I read the graphic novels this show was based on. They're actually very different in a lot of particulars but they have the same problem as the show. Child characters who talk and act much older than their supposed age; who pretty much have to, realistic twelve year olds wouldn't be able to survive the situations they're put in. It would have been better imo to just make the characters 15 or 16. The dialogue and action sequences would be much more plausible.
I wish they had proceeded a little more quickly. The comics feature time jumps into the prehistoric past and far future. Saving that stuff for season 2 was a mistake, as the middle episodes seemed like filler and dragged. The show had some great moments though. That scene where punk girl Mac was talking to the social worker at the hospital cracked me up. Her relationship with the grown version of her brother was definitely a highlight.
Needless to say, the show got canceled and while they were talking about trying to sell it to another streamer, I think the clock has expired on a continuation. The girls were already too old for their characters in 2021.
Thanks for posting Caleyunior. For the most part I liked this series. It was an entertaining diversion that fell short of its full potential.
