If I switch to a mod, can I keep all my old .part files?

You can keep your old temp folder, so no unfinished downloads will be lost.

Major steps:
1. Close eMule
2. Just in case, back up (or make a copy of) the "Config" subdirectory under where eMule is installed. This has all your preferences, friends, credits etc. in the .met and .dat and .ini files. (Actually, I personally back up everthing but the Temp subdirectory to make it easier to go back, even though I have never wanter or needed to).
3. Install the new mod into the same directory where your current eMule is.
4. Run it, and you can cancel out of the wizard, since the settings in your old preferences.ini file are still valid.

No. You should do a complete clean install to avoid errors.

Don't worry about your credits. You should have them back in a few hours.

(Of course you can keep a copy of your old installation if you are scared ;) )

I can see understand the new preferences file and re-setting your preferences if the mod doesn't do a good job of defaulting things, but if the mod really needs a clean install I can do without it. It sounds to me like they just don't want to deal with any support, which is a bit of a red flag for me.

That's wrong. There is a lot of support in this forum! http://www.futuremods.de/forum/forum.php. (sorry, only german).

If you need help with the settings, just ask me.

Because the support forum is in german, i am posting the suggested settings here:

(You only need Universal Plug & Play, if you are behind a rooter)

(Always use the latest IP Filter for security reasons!)

And think about it: This a community mod! We could get the files we are sharing here in this forum much faster from each other ;)

Maybe just a paranoid question, but are you sure the reprogramming on this mod is safe? I don't want to install something that's been MODified to allow a backdoor into my computer.
