Thank you very much. There are lots of incest-themed movies out there, but I don't call all of them "controversial". This movie is different in many aspects.deadman wrote: Mon Jun 16, 2025 12:47 am
The one respect in which I find SC deficient is that it often gets ages wrong. Usually because they don't check exact dates of birth and production dates, when available. But also if films are shot and then not released for several years. They seem to rely mostly on the release date.
I think they mean Terry was 13 during filming. He looks it, and was almost certainly no older than 14. María had apparently just graduated from film school at the time - so 22 fits. There's almost no personal information available about either of the leads. She only made a brief appearance in one other movie. He never acted again.
I wouldn't call it one of the most controversial of all time. But you really have to watch the entirety of it to get the impact. Maybe it's just me, but I have a hard time feeling awkward about incest in movies. I know the actors aren't actually related and that's how I tend to view the scenes. There's a lot more to this movie than that though. The violence and general toxicity of the whole situation is shocking in a bunch of different ways.
I found the subtitles were a little off sync, displaying about one second later than the spoken lines. There were also a few minor grammatical and word errors. So I fixed them and made two different versions: regular and SDH - for those who don't know, SDH is the one with the hearing impaired extras like [phone ringing]. Then I created a remux of jezevex's file containing both sets of subs. You can download it from either of these links:

If you already have the jezevex version and just want the corrected subs:
Hijos de la Sal (2018).1080p.web-dl.en.srt
Hijos de la Sal (2018).1080p.web-dl.SDH.en.srt

A new-graduated girl and a local boy with no acting experience at all... They both won awards. Courage should always be rewarded.
