9th-graders Kazuo (boy) and Kazumi (girl) take a tumble at a temple in a small seacoast town in Japan. Through supernatural intervention, their minds and bodies are switched, and the result is a touching and hilarious coming-of-age comedy as they attempt to survive the pressures of junior high school life.

16 year old Satomi Kobayashi in her first role: a body swapping comedic drama that launched a long career. It benefits from having been made in the early 80's rather than more recently, if you know what I mean. Forget what you know about cheesy Hollywood Disney style body swap comedies. This is a good movie. I posted a remux of the DVD to which I've added subtitles borrowed from a different version that had the same framerate.

True enough. What sets it apart from bland "family safe" schlock (besides the obvious) is that they don't avoid the sort of stuff that might actually happen in a situation like this, in all its amusing awkwardness. For example Kazuo - the boy - finding himself in a girl's body, apparently spent so much time playing with her boobs that the next day he told his friend Kazumi (who's in his body) his nipples were sore. She scolds him for doing what he obviously did and calls him a pervert. Later on of course he has to deal with her period. Hard to imagine all that on the Disney channel.

They also get into the sadness of each of them losing their lives and their real families. Not knowing how to reverse what's happened, they have to face the likelihood that they can never go back.

The above mkv has interlacing in it. Not sure how to change it back from a mkv to a file that can be brought into Virtual Dub to deinterlace. Would it not be better to place the original DVD rip files (VOBs) + a SRT file for download as a big zip / or multipart RAR, not packaged into a mkv.

Deadman's posted the original DVD - As a Remux. The MPEG2 stream is the same as the VOB files.

... I have never used Virtual Dub, but as an experiment I changed the MKV extension to VOB and it at least did not break the file. MKVs are more broadly usable for watching movies, which I think was the point of the share. Thank you deadman, I look forward to seeing it!

I don't have the DVD as a disc. I downloaded it (minus the subtitles) by searching on eMule, figuring it was most likely a DVD remux because of the size. I turned out to be right. The video is MPEG-2. For some reason the original file seems to have disappeared. Snagged it just in time! If you have VirtualDub 2 you can open .mkv files - or just about any other type of file - directly. The old version of VirtualDub was more restricted. Download the newer one if you don't have it.

Thanks Deadman - i'll try that. Taking out the interlacing with virtualdub 2 would be the first step - so good if i can open it in that - i have that version. But hadn't tried opening it in much yet - been too busy.

VirtualDub2 will open pretty much anything. The most obscure old formats. m1v, .flv, .ogv, even .dat videos. New formats like .m2ts files from 4K blurays. Anything x265. It opens stuff even my media players choke on.
