More powerful than vlc?deadman wrote: Sat Jun 21, 2025 9:09 pmDavid32441 wrote: Sat Jun 21, 2025 7:52 pm Thanks Deadman - i'll try that. Taking out the interlacing with virtualdub 2 would be the first step - so good if i can open it in that - i have that version. But hadn't tried opening it in much yet - been too busy.
VirtualDub2 will open pretty much anything. The most obscure old formats. m1v, .flv, .ogv, even .dat videos. New formats like .m2ts files from 4K blurays. Anything x265. It opens stuff even my media players choke on.

I've had a few files that wouldn't play right in either vlc or MPC-BE that opened and worked perfectly in VirtualDub 2. It obviously uses its own set of codecs.

Good reminder for me to try Virtualdub2 for some rare files I had where mediainfo showed subtitles but no video player played/recognized any subs (I think it was tv recording)

I have Tenkosei.1982.1080i.HDTV.AAC1.0.MPEG2-WELP.mkv. It's a bit cropped and has a small logo. Not much better than dvd.

The logo is so small that I can not even find it! Maybe the 1080i interlacing is less noticeable than the DVD?

Interlacing not noticeable but logo is.

WOWOW, now I can see the logo. Thank you for the other screenshot and your willingness to share the big file!
