I heard that a player called „Leawo Player“ has also some BluRay menu Support. Have no experience with it and I don’t know if the .org or .com address is the right one and how/why they can offer the player for free (not OpenSource as far as I can tell).deadman wrote: Thu Jul 17, 2025 3:36 pm
You're right, just downloaded the most recent version of VLC and it does load the bluray menu. Thanks!
Guess the industry finally gave up its nonsensical opposition to allowing this functionality. Note that 4K blurays still don't work. Not sure if this is more of the same, or the result of some format difference that's not immediately apparent from the folder structure (which looks identical to 1080p discs).
Update: After trying various discs it seems like certain ones won't load, I get an error message about Java support and it plays without menus. So some 4K blurays may work after all. I don't have many to test. I'm not that fond of VLC's control scheme but keep it on my system so I have options if something won't work in my player of choice.

PotPlayer can also play Bluray files or disc.goku33 wrote: Fri Jul 18, 2025 11:27 pmI heard that a player called „Leawo Player“ has also some BluRay menu Support. Try VLC, not the best but wide compatibility, can support most DVD/BD menus and programs.

I’ve tried Leawo Blu-ray Player. It does have some Blu-ray menu support, and works okay for basic navigation (so far).goku33 wrote: Fri Jul 18, 2025 11:27 pmI heard that a player called „Leawo Player“ has also some BluRay menu Support. As for the URL — I downloaded it from the .org one (https://www.leawo.org/blu-ray-player/). The .com seems to be more focused on their Blu-ray/DVD software. Anyway, both are their websites.
And, I think their business model is more of a freemium approach. The player itself is free to get people into their ecosystem, and then they upsell their paid tools. So basically, the player is kind of like a gateway product.
Hope that helps!

IT WORKED!!!

I had no hesitation judging that worthy of downloading. I went back to this thread and followed your directions, because I did not trust myself to figure it out on my own. This time I got the DISK MENU (complete with copyright warnings beforehand) so I was able to find out that the short video segments were "Alternate Opening and Ending". Otherwise I would have been left in the dark.
(The half hour video with a critical appraisal and and also an interview with star Brigitte Fossey was at least identified by name at the start, so that one I would have identified.)
Thanks again!

Re: BluRay Remuxes, BDMV folders, & BluRay disk playback
I had reason to play a BDMV so I tried the options in this thread, with different successes for each.
Currently my MakeMKV's beta key is expired so I can not use that. In a few days it should be updated and I can try again.
VLC would at first only work for playing individual M2TS files. The Media>OpenDisc>BluRay gave an error. Darnit.
MPC-BE would autoplay the main movie file and individual videos but not the Blu disk menu with options.
PotPlayer also only played Blu videos and not the menu.
FULL SUCCESS with Leawo BluRay Player!!!!
During installation it prompted me to install Java Runtime Environment, which I did also.
BluRay Menu navigation was accomplished via keyboard or their Virtual Controller, not the mouse.
After the success with Leawo and Java, I went back and retried the others. Most stayed the same.
Installing Java made the difference with VLC, which THEN played the BluRay Menu after Media>OpenDisc>BluRay.
The Menu could be navigated with the mouse too.
Thank you everyone for your suggestions!!!!

Re: BluRay Remuxes, BDMV folders, & BluRay disk playback
Thanks for the rundown citronleaf. I know my system does not have Java, so if I have any problems with VLC then I will try adding Java and probably Leawo too.
Re: BluRay Remuxes, BDMV folders, & BluRay disk playback
Some of the BD menus require the Java runtime, and as I recall VLC should have pointed this out in the error message.
In VLC you can click on menus with the mouse, but sometimes you need keyboard assistance to go back to the parent menu.

Sorry I just found out that you mentioned Java support, yes, you have to install the Java runtime, which is a must for some discs.deadman wrote: Thu Jul 17, 2025 3:36 pm Update: After trying various discs it seems like certain ones won't load, I get an error message about Java support and it plays without menus.

You can change your computer's clock back to last month to use the old MakeMKV beta key until a new one is posted. Just beware that some websites will stop working as it will mess up certificate authentication (until you fix your clock).citronleaf wrote: Sat Aug 02, 2025 9:27 am Currently my MakeMKV's beta key is expired so I can not use that.

Or download MakeMKV RePack - I downloaded it and I don't need to update it constantly
