That's strange... When I translated the subtitles, SE said the language is Sinhala. :o

Maybe it is, maybe not... The result of the English translation was very good. I didn't expect that.

BTW: I recommand to use the second Youtube link I posted. It has the correct framerate and only a small watermark.

Might be the font tag messing up auto detection.

Anymore. Once upon a time that was all there was available, right?

Myself, I have not progressed beyond Google Tranlate V1 API in SubtitleEdit so that is what I used just to take a quick look at these subtitles and see how truly awful my results would be. ("I will wait for ghost's results.") I never figured out getting API Keys because they are not free, and my 3 tries with Whisper/ChatGPT were failures because of weak computer processing.

I do not know where exactly you found your proper actual subtitles that were not Autogenerated, but my supposition is this: This movie is supposedly from India if IMDB is correct and that is where a large number of the world's Tamil speakers reside, but there is also a minority Tamil population in Sri Lanka. The Sinhalese majority population in Sri Lanka were seen as a potential audience for this film given the inevitable cultural connections (despite serious political differences), so subtitles translated from Tamil were created for them. The languages and alphabets are completely different, even if both look like curly-cues to Westerners. (Speaking for myself.) I have heard a little Tamil spoken in movies but I am not sure if I have ever heard Sinhala.

At least I would use DeepL for translation in SE. You also need an API key, but it is for free. It gives you better results than Google.

I myself only use AI for translation when I need a nearly professional translation. Services like DeepSeek or ChatGPT. These translations are much more accurate because they also take context into account. Yes, I bought a DeepSeek key, but it only cost about $1.

I searched for a very long time for subtitles for this movie and I was about to give up. FInally I found these Sinhala subtitles here:

The Youtube video says they will take your credit card number for identity verification for the free account but will not charge it. Uh huh, I have heard that story before.
It gives you better results than Google.
I have seen your subtitles and I KNOW this to be TRUE.
Yes, I bought a DeepSeek key, but it only cost about $1.
I admit that is a reasonable cost. (Or is that $1 per subtitle? You would go broke!) Will they accept payment in memecoins? ;)

Both the link address and the page say Sinhala sub(titles) but you were still surprised???

ANYWAY, I write before reading a full thread ALL THE TIME, so I was not actually criticizing you for it. I just thought it was funny.

Or is that $1 per subtitle?
No, no, no. This is a one-time fee for the api key..
but you were still surprised???

 Thank you, I needed that.

It was practically the only English on the page! The rest was "curly cues"!
