streaming services out there... there's just too many and can be expensive lol

if i buy a subscription for every service we have here... Combined, that would surely exceed 100 dollars

I remember cable TV packages that cost more than that per month, and they had 500 channels of endless garbage of which 200 were shopping channels.

what could be the issue of me having no servers statuses are connecting, I am using Windows 10. tnx

can someone take me step-by-step?
From the moment I install prorgam (goes for versions 5 and 7 both), I get like 7 pop up windows when emule is started saying incorrect paths. I tried adding folders manually, but still get same msg:
c:\programfiles\emule\config\emfriends.met contains incorrect path
same goes for known.met, clients.met
and popup with msg failed to initialize cryptokeys - secure ident disabled

After that emule starts, but when I copy paste http://upd.emule-security.org/server.met into "update server.met from URL I get msg: An error occured while opening the file to be downloaded, Error: the system cannot find the path specified.

I also failed "test ports" in runtime wizard "TCP test failed! UDP test will not be performed. "

I am missing some steps, and step-by-step guidinance would be appriciated

Welcome to FLM! I think I have an idea about some of the problems. But first things first:

Did you download eMule from emule-project.com and NOT some unknown 3rd party source that could have viruses?
https://www.emule-project.com/home/perl ... m=download
pijani123 wrote: Fri Aug 01, 2025 4:23 am can someone take me step-by-step?
Did you try the first post in this thread for the step-by-step setup? This may be an installation issue.
I get like 7 pop up windows when emule is started saying incorrect paths.
That suggests to me maybe a problem with the installation. If you have made multiple manual changes since the installation you might need to start over with a fresh install. See the step-by-step setup if you have not already. (I found it infuriating that Googling "emule incorrect paths error" did NOT actually give me useful results.)
and popup with msg failed to initialize cryptokeys - secure ident disabled
I was bewildered by this but found this older page about that exact problem (but with Windows 7):
https://superuser.com/questions/96078/e ... -directory
The short answer is:
setting the Incoming directory elsewhere (outside of Program Files)
But look at the linked page, as it has a few more details. In my own emule setup, the C: drive with Program Files is very SMALL on my laptop. Because of this I long ago created folders on my D: drive just for emule downloads (Incoming and Temp). My program installation itself is still on the C: drive, although it too can be specified for the D: drive during installation if necessary.

After that emule starts, but when I copy paste http://upd.emule-security.org/server.met into "update server.met from URL I get msg: An error occured while opening the file to be downloaded, Error: the system cannot find the path specified.
I suggest working on the previous problems and getting those fixed before seeing if this issue is still happening. I think this could be a Windows issue rather than an emule issue, but if emule is not installed properly then Windows will of course be lost. If the previous errors no longer happen because the installation is fixed but this error still happens, Googling "the system cannot find the path specified" for Windows issues and solutions may be necessary.
I also failed "test ports" in runtime wizard "TCP test failed! UDP test will not be performed. "
Again, the installation needs to be fixed first. But with a proper installation you will still get this result if you are limited to LowID. That is NOT terrible, you just do not have the "ideal" HighD. I get this because *I* am limited to LowID. I can still emule download many files regardless.

Ok, I deinstalled the program, deleted all the folders manually
I downloaded the instalation from the link you provided, I am presuming instalation v0.70
And I am installing:

- I didn;t touch anything on first step where I can check something, so "select components to install" both are staying checked, "program files" and "take Ed2k links"
- on the next screen I am leaving "user specific" default
- I also didn;t change destination folder "C:\Program Files (x86)\eMule"

The instalation went without issues.
It created a shortcut on my desktop.

When I click it, I get the popup with error: "failed to create incoming files directory "C:\program files (x86)emule\incoming\" - access is denied
This is my own personal Pc, so nobody other than me uses it.

when I click "ok", another pop up comes with msg: "failed to create incoming files directory "C:\program files (x86)emule\incoming\" - the system cannot find the file specified.

when I clikc "ok", another pop up: Failed to create Temporary Files directory "C:\program files (x86)emule\Temp" - Access id denied
when I clikc "ok", another pop up: Failed to create Temporary Files directory "C:\program files (x86)emule\Temp" - he system cannot find the file specified.

when I clikc "ok", another pop up:Unknown error ehile reading emfriends.met % - C:\Program files (x86)\emule\config\emfriends contains an incorrect path

And for more pop ups with similar msgs.
Tha e-mule opens, and I get into first time run wizard

---

So I am going to unistall and try to install it in diferent folder, on root of C.

Ok, I installed in root C - and no error popups!

so let's go from here:
when I open program I get two popups, one is frist time use wizard, and second is Windows security alert - windows defender firewall has blocked some features of this app: now I have options to allow eMule on private, and on pubic networks. Private is allowed by default - I will leave it like this (maybe here is the problem, me not allowing it on public netowrks?). I click allow access (just for priwate networks)

I go to eMule first time wizard and I follow step-bystep by Phuzzy4242, first post of this thread:
- I used username and left unchecked enlabling run at startap and second one, enable connection. Click next:
- I input numbers provided in guide, 16047 and 16062. I lcick "test ports" and get TCP test failed in my Mozzila Firefox browser
- next window, donwload upoload I leave by default, both checked
- next window, I folow instructions and leave it by default (selected) - security (obfuscation)
- next window, following instructions, I leave first two checked, and check the thirds one.
- and than it is finished

Now I go to the options icon and click it.
- I go to "server", following instructions I uncheck "Auto-update server list at startup", "Update server list when connecting to a server", and "Update server list when a client connects". (they were not checked anyway). I click ok.
- instructions says: ". Now click the Servers tab at the top of the eMule screen, right-click any server in the list and select "Remove All"" - but I didn;t had any. So this could be indication of a problem
- I copy paste "http://www.peerates.net/servers.php" in update server and click update, pop up comes and it seems to be doing something - but nothing change after it automatically close.

So, next step:
- options, security, and I check "filter servers too (it was unchecked)
- now, in guide (first post in this thread) moderator wrote that there is a problem and provided link to another thread. I read the thread, and download the zip file, which containes "guardin.2php" file. I don;t know what to do with it. I went trough eMule instalation program, and didn;t found file with same name, to replace it. I am not sure where it should go.

I go to the KAD and do what instruction tells, I copy paste "http://download.tuxfamily.org/technosal ... /nodes.dat" into nodes.dat from URL and click "bootstrap"
pop up with "downloading" comes, downloads for some time (20 sec) than auto closes.

I follow rest of instructions regarding options. And go to third big step, open router and firewall ports:
win+r, cms, ippconfig/all. I copy paste my IPv4 and subnet mask.
- I do this: " Network Connections. Right-click on your network adapter and choose Properties, then select Internet Protocol. Select "Use the following IP address" and fill in the IP address, Subnet mask, and Default gateway with the information you wrote down, then click the OK button" - done. Now my ip is static (right?)

update: wrong. I lost internet access. I had to go back and remove what I iunput in last step, and immediately, I got internet back. Ok, my ip is not static, but that will just make eMule work slower, right?

Next step is: "Type the router's IP address in the Address box in the browser" - I am stuck here - is my "router's IP address" my IPv4? I try copy pasting it in browser, search and I get list of sites, routher network, login admin - but no mater what I clikc, I get "can;t connect". The rest of sites work normally

I am stuck, and not sure what to do next, so eMule can work

I have privately asked some people to look at this thread and comment if they have ideas.

Here I publicly ask ANY emule user who has any suggestions to chime in!

I know I do not have all the answers myself.

That sounds like a real and positive accomplishment!
now I have options to allow eMule on private, and on pubic networks. Private is allowed by default - I will leave it like this (maybe here is the problem, me not allowing it on public netowrks?). I click allow access (just for priwate networks)
My own inclination is that you are correct here. I think "public networks" are airports and coffee bars and the like. If you only do your computer downloading at home on your own network it should be more secure, with no need for public networks. But if the public networks are your only Internet source then that is what you must use!
- I copy paste "http://www.peerates.net/servers.php" in update server and click update, pop up comes and it seems to be doing something - but nothing change after it automatically close.
I seem to remember discovering that the peerates site no longer works in that box. I thought I posted about it here somewhere but I can not find any such post now.

The rest of your extensive details I could not entirely follow in my imagination. I do know that you should have emule "basically working" in LowID before you go on to try and fiddle around with your router settings to get HighID. I think you might be trying to do everything at once. But I am not sure.

Hopefully over the next few days there should be some more comments here.

It sounds to me like UAC (Windows User account control) is on high as on same level as Vista. Windows Defender may also be higher than default setting. It is just my assumption. If your emule version is 0.70b and according to wiki its release date is August 2024 - Developers of this version should already take care of UAC thing. Something s**t just happens.

If I was you - I will try on other computer where I don't care because it doesn't contain serious business or invaluable data.
* Disconnect the computer from internet
* Disable UAC (google it)
* Disable Windows Defender (temporary)
* Add eMule path e.g 'C:\program files (x86)emule' to Windows Defender exclusion folder.
* Install eMule
* If everything went right - open eMule despite remaining disconnected from internet
* See if it opens correctly - if yes, then close eMule.
* Turn on UAC and Windows Defender - Pray that those don't stand on your way.
* Connect the computer to internet
* Please don't change any settings in eMule - Please write here and we will tell you if it sounds right or not.

Alternative: If you have other computer with default settings on UAC and Windows Defender where you didn't change - compare them between two computers.

No, Windows Defender or UAC is not the reason for his issues.

I'm running my eMlule installation for 9 years now and never had any problems. Currently I'm on Windows 11 24H2.

I'm sorry, but I don't have any clue, why it isn't working for you.

I never used the installer. Did you also try the portable version (the zip file)?
Normally you just have to extract it into a folder and run the eMule.exe. (Don't use c:\Programs, put it in any other folder on your c drive.)
It will ask you for some settings then it should be done. Close it and edit all the other settings.

You have to allow incoming connections for the eMule.exe in the WIndows Firewall. Then open/forward the TCP and UDP ports in your router (the ones in your emule settings under "connections").

That should be all and you even should get a High ID.

I hope I could help.

thank you for time you set aside to help me :)

I think eMule is working fine, and my problem is flow of information - I am disconected somewhere. Ie, somewhere I have something that is stopping flow of information

Any ideas what I can do to check it?
I bet it is a simplest thing :) But you have to know where to look and what to click :)

What are the most common issues?
Let us assume my instalation is valid and all options exept data flow are correct - I know nothing about ports and similar, and I think issue is there - can we go step by step? I get stuck in one step in "step-by-step" insturctions.
