For my SDH examples all I really meant is that if someone is whispering so quietly that you can not hear it then you are not MEANT to hear it and it does not matter what they are saying. I was not making up my examples, I have seen them in subtitles. If someone who is deaf is watching a movie and they can tell someone is talking, they either want to know the words or else know that hearing people can not understand them either. Just knowing that someone is mumbling incoherently is enough, like in a Marlon Brando movie. Maybe it does not really apply to this movie, I was just guessing when you mentioned whispering.

What is he saying to Ella in the car at 00:35:15? (after "All right, together.")

I hear "One try." As in after pushing the car, he only had to give it one try turning the key for the engine to start instead of repeatedly going ERRRRN ERRRRN KRRRNNNNKACK until the engine finally turns over. I don't know the exact context but I suspect that they have to go through this nonsense often to get that junker going. Ever seen "Karate Kid"?

All this handwork is the most valuable part. I have trouble doing these meticulous work, just constantly optimizing my scripts.
Many of today's commercial official subtitles are automated and full of errors, so these are especially valuable.
In any case, I know how hard all this work is and have great respect for these many hours and the results.

I had no idea that this was specifically an American expression, but a number of places online claim that it is. We avoid stepping on sidewalk cracks because it is bad luck.
