That would at least make more sense! But I will never underestimate the desire of tech companies to push product. I think that people spending huge amounts of money to replace their phones every year is pretty strong evidence for this. (This often happens because they pay huge amounts of money on plans that allow this of course.)

It would be interesting to do tests to see how many humans can see the difference between
2k- 4k - 8k - 16k

I know for certain that my aging eyes that used to see a benefit in 4k on a large screen no longer can. :(
At least I know from experience that human eyes can see 4k, if not mine!

All browsers only goes up to 720p

Not like it's a big deal anyway
720p is fine for me
This is strange, and I'm interested in their strategies.
For example may be able to help us find ways to download the highest quality.

Vimeo has some videos where the highest, uncompressed quality is hiding there able to be downloaded but is not a streaming option. Maybe that is similar... ?

Basically streaming movies through the browser illegally (instead of downloading)

That's what I meant

I still don't get it. How can you stream a movie in your browser illegally?

But yes: SBS only offers 720p.

I wasn't gonna name any since I'm not 100% sure if naming piracy sites is allowed here but I have no choice

Sites similar to Putlocker

Here's an example

This isn't downloaded, it's streaming directly through the browser

Well, ghost and I have been pressing you on it! ;) At least I was not alone in being bewildered. If either ghost or I were really concerned about the public discussion we could have switched to Private Messages. Just so you know, if you or anyone else are uncomfortable discussing anything in the public forum there is always the option of using Private Messaging too.

I at least have heard of P******** even if I have never been there. I see it called an "online illegal movie streaming site network" and that it was blocked by the courts in the UK, so I guess you were correct to be cautious about it. What streams for free in one country - like Hollywood movies on Russian sites such as VK or OK - might not be free to stream in another. I remember spending huge amounts of money in the late 90's / early 2000s on Hong Kong import DVDs, only to see them freely shared on YouTube ten years later (well after the handover, politically speaking). If anyone complained, YouTube's policy may very well have been "Chinese copyright is not OUR problem."
