Spoiler:

Why say it in simple words, if you also can use 10.000 words? ;)
See? Everything is so much easier if you don't use the installer. Just download the zip file, extract it to a folder of your joice and run the eMule.exe. In this way you have everything in one folder and don't have to search for your config folder.

It was too short, but thank you anyway. *--*

Night457 wrote: Thu Aug 28, 2025 12:41 am Of course I would choose a User Specific Installation because I do not like things easy. In File Explorer I navigated through AppData to my eMule Config folder. There was addresses.dat and all the other important files. I made a Copy of addresses.dat in that same folder before editing it in case I made a mistake.
I must admit that when I saw that the addresses.dat file was deleted, I copied it like you. I have no idea how it got deleted. But thanks to you, I have solved the problem. Thanks so. *--*

Unigami - Ghost did mention that the addresses.dat file might not be there and would need to be created. I actually already had one with the alternate URL inside it. The file itself probably did not exist until I created it some time ago; I just could not FIND it this time. Glad this worked for you now!

Ghost - Well you know I don't want to leave anything out! ;)

Your instructions would work for me fine had I not lost the config folder. I used to know where my config folder WAS, but I still had a shortcut on my Desktop so I could get to it easily and back it up occasionally. But that was on my old computer. I am not sure what was User Specific about my newer installation, but I do that sort of thing all the time! I make my specific choices during installation. My choices are invariably correct :| but I can not remember what they are. What I ought to remember is that if I ever can not find something, it is always in AppData.

Night brought up something that I've wondered about. The server list is growing smaller, with some servers returning and leaving randomly. This doesn't seem to affect downloading and uploading. Has anyone experienced this with emule in the past?

Also, I noticed yesterday that the files count under the servers list tab that the total files count of many of the servers, including sunrise, seems lower. Yesterday, sunrise went down to 2.5 million, down from the average range of 12 to 20 million. Anyone else experience this?

My 2¢:
Spoiler:

I have never noticed this before myself but I too am interested in what the emule oldtimers say. It probably happened in my time but with a smaller number of Servers. Of course if a server goes off the "approved" lists that does not necessarily mean that the Server is gone. It may just no longer meet the approval criteria, whatever that may be. If an emule Server still exists and it proves to be good enough for the gatekeepers then it goes back on their lists. Peerates has a longer list of Servers but all the ones I have tried to add to emule have not worked. This is why I did not include it in my instructions above.

YES! I was not sure I could believe what I thought I remembered so thanks for confirming that I may not be losing it totally. This is concerning because it means fewer people are using eMule. If that is because they have chosen to move on to different things that is perhaps unfortunate for those still using eMule but inevitable and philosophically speaking acceptable. But if they still WANT to use eMule but are unable to because of government or ISP restrictions then that is BAD BAD BAD. Of course all it takes is one country with a huge population to crack down on emule file sharing and suddenly you lose 100 million emulers.
I still want to hear about other emuler's experiences.

Yes i have noticed the server list getting smaller and smaller for quite a bit now when I started a few years back the box was nearly full now its around 6 or 7 most days, one day last week there was just one when i logged on - that was only temporary, there are 3.5 mil files too which is way down, glad to here its not something wrong at my end, it does not affect dl speed or anything but it is clearly worrying, no idea what is causing it. I have noticed more cases where a file will only part download too and some where they just disappear for no reason, (part downloaded) when i log back on it has just disappeared completely so i have to start again and it sometimes takes several tries before it downloads fully anyone else had this?

I do have High so do not know what the problem is?

Since I'm very new to emule, I didn't have much trouble. But as you can see from this title, a server has disappeared and I'm having trouble with it. I can access my files by trying different servers. This is truly a sad situation. Because there are people in many countries who want to watch movies with limited means. There are people who cannot access films. However, people who can access it via the internet either use emule or torrent links. Because in many countries you may not be able to find every movie on disc. *-*

What I mean is, "It would be nice if every movie could be sold in every country", folks.

Also, it makes no sense for them to restrict sharing of movies.

I don't see a problem yet.

I don't need 20 servers. It's important to have at least 1 or 2 stable servers with many users and files.
