I'll have to admit; I was disappointed in this movie.

I have to agree with Moonee that this is NOT a movie I would outright say is suitable for families. But that isn't my biggest beef with it.

Personally, I could not connect on any emotional level with any of the major characters. I WANTED to like this movie a whole lot. I tried watching it 3 times (I don't do that much with movies I LIKE). Each time I kept thinking 'I just don't like these kids'..

I can't tell you in any specific way WHY I didn't like them, but I didn't: Their bratty personalities didn't work for me. Their motives didn't work for me. Their character arcs didn't work for me. Just didn't like 'em..

It took me the second viewing before I even realized what the boy wanted to do with the mama.. Nobel, but I didn't like him enough to care. And the girl? I don't think she learned a damn thing...

For those reasons, beyond the language and scary scenes, I will not be inclined to show this movie to any children I happen to be taking care of...

Anyway. I had high hopes for this one. Obviously it worked for other members here, so that's a good thing; it's NOT a total bust of a film.. :thumbsup

Yes, those paintings are horrible, but I think that's just an "exaggeration" expression, something some call it artistic exaggeration. In fact there is a lot of exaggeration and detached expression in this movie. I can understand this, and this is really not a serious problem today when people are consuming violent and bloody content in general, and we need to know that it is hard for kids to avoid being exposed to those contents at times.

Also, I like the characters that the three children portray, and they are not bad or bratty, they are still kind inside. In the real world rather than the painting world, they still think and act in the first place to save their partners, even the boy targeted in the painting.

I think your comment reminds me of another seemingly innocent with cute posters movie Ankle Biters (2021), and that's really disturbing, and I even think those child actress shouldn't be in such a role. I'm not usually afraid of horror movies, but that movie makes it hard for me to watch. It might be interesting to compare these two movies from some perspectives.

There is another movie De uskyldige (2021), and I could never forget that she puts the glass pieces into the shoes of her sister who has nonverbal autism.

Now De uskyldige AKA The Innocents (2021); THAT movie worked for me. :thumbsup

I beg to disagree; those kids were absolutely bratty. I didn't say 'bad', but they were 'bratty'. That doesn't make them unkind inside (most people, even when they're doing the wrong things, ultimately believe they're good people), it just makes them brats..
