What are the rules for signature pictures?

Post by ttulog »   0 likes

Can everyone put a picture into his signature, or do you have to meet conditions, first? If there are conditions, what are they? If you can put a picture into your signature, how do you do it? And what are the size restrictions?

Member name in upper corner of webpage > User Control Panel > Profile > Edit avatar

"Maximum dimensions; width: 150 pixels, height: 150 pixels, file size: 48.00 KiB."

If the picture you like is too big you can use something like Microsoft Paint to edit it or reduce format and reduce resolution to make it small enough. You can also crop it to just the part you want. Then upload it from your machine. It seems to support GIF, JPG, JPEG, PNG but JPG I think will more easily be small enough.

No porn, no political messaging, no personal attacks. Since those rules apply to the posts they make sense for the avatar too.

Thank you, but I was wondering about pictures in the signature, not avatars.

Doh! I'm tired and I did not read it right. I'll look it up.

User Control Panel > Profile > Edit Signature

In the message box type or paste your text. The icons can be used to change color or size, bold, italic, Insert Image.

I do not know the size limit but it might be 2 MB.

Thank you. There doesn't seem to be an upload option on that page. I'll try to get around that by posting the picture I want in this post:

Yay! It works!

OK, where did you upload the image to in order to have a URL to upload it from? I have not figured that out myself!

1. I opened two tabs in my browser, one to post a post in this very thread here, and one with the signature editing page you told me about.

2. Then, in the tab where I wrote a new post for this thread, I used the "Add images to post" link to upload the picture, and put it into the post I was writing.

3. Then, I hit "preview".

4. Once I saw the picture in the preview, I right-clicked on it and selected "copy link" (not sure if that works equally well in other browser than mine).

5. Over in the tab with the signature editor, I clicked on the "Insert image" button, and pasted the link between the "img" tags.

6. Then, I saved my signature.

7. Then, I went back to the post I was writing for this thread, and hit "submit".

The picture is now on the first-loves servers. No need for any outside hosting provider.

That is damn clever and ensures the image is stored here and not elsewhere. I understand completely. But how in the heck did everyone else figure that out? It makes perfect sense but it is indirect. Moonee, is that how you did it?

Glad you figured it out faster than I did!

The only thing I see in the FAQ is this:
How do I add a signature to my post?
To add a signature to a post you must first create one via your User Control Panel. Once created, you can check the Attach a signature box on the posting form to add your signature. You can also add a signature by default to all your posts by checking the appropriate radio button in the User Control Panel. If you do so, you can still prevent a signature being added to individual posts by un-checking the add signature box within the posting form.

Yes it was, I was sick and tired of adding images and it eventually gets an "image no longer exists" box

So, I went to a random thread, selected "Add images to post (max file size 2 MB)"

Copied the text into my signature

I didn't think it'd work at first, I was surprised when it did

Edit: By the way, you don't actually have to select Submit in the thread

Preview works fine (Just copy the text after adding the image to your post)
