Like Uma Thurman, maybe in more ways than height:
Spoiler:

IMDB wrote:She and her siblings all have names deriving from Buddhist mythology; and Middle American behavior was little understood, much less pursued. And so it was that the young Thurman confronted childhood with an odd name and eccentric home life -- and nature seemingly conspired against her as well. She is six feet tall, and from an early age towered over everyone else in class. Her famously large feet would soon sprout to size 11 -- and even beyond that -- and although they would eventually be lovingly filmed by director Quentin Tarantino, as a child she generally wore the biggest shoes in class, which only provided another subject of ridicule. Even her long nose moved one of her mother's friends to helpfully suggest rhinoplasty -- to the ten-year-old Thurman. To make matters worse yet, the family constantly relocated, making the gangly, socially inept Thurman perpetually the new kid in class. The result was an exceptionally awkward, self-conscious, lonely and alienated childhood.
Thanks for the reminder of this one! I've had the YouTube video playing while I FLM.

It would have been great if, a little bit later, they would have made a sequel where Laura would have had to manage the additional social awkwardness revolving around her first serious crush. Would have meant lots of opportunities for additional hilarity. But that might not have been YAP's style.

Yeah, this was a fun one. ghost was kind enough to fix the audio issues this had.

YAP has done a few other shorts and short miniseries that I quite enjoyed. Here's Cheerleaders in the Chess Club. A bit more drama with this one:

Thanks for that one! I'm currently watching it. Not done yet. I literally laughed out loudly when the guy reacted that way to the two cheerleaders walking into the club. Dude, there's a number of fairly cute girls already in your club, and each of them would probably be a better fit for you than either of those two!

Hey glad you like it. I have considered making it a release here before. I hope you like Beth's character as much as I did. And also what they did to Cindy's character at the end. There is also a direct sequel ("season 2") to this miniseries. I found it enjoyable and worth watching, but not quite as good as the first season. Its overarching title apparently is "Romance".

Not to get too off topic. From "Ask Me About My Shirt", I wished I could find more YAP material with Apolline. She's just so spunky, I love it! Sadly, that was the only film I could find with her in. Unlikely there's much more, since the YAP material so back around 13 years, and Ask Me is one of their earlier productions. A note, most of their film before Ask Me are very amateurish and look like they were done for fun before they they hit their stride.

One of the other early shorts I enjoyed is called Locker Combo. Worth watching for this resilient little character:

If you end up watching anymore YAP, let me know what you recommend, or if you find more Apolline!

Thirteen was one of their early big hits, by the look of it. I wrote in an earlier post in this thread that I recommended it, but skimming through it now, I don't recall ever watching it. I am sure it is enjoyable, but it certainly shows the amateur low-budget feel of their early material. Just keeping that in mind, it should be a fun watch. Apparently, YAP made a follow-up called "Sixteen."

If you'll forgive me one more post that's a bit off topic for this thread:

Yeah, Beth's great. Early on, I liked the way Penny explains the basic rules of chess. I also like how they're all weird, but weird in clearly different ways, with their clearly distinct personalities.

It's just that what's left of my old first aid training kicked in and revolted when
Spoiler:

Ashley hit her head, had to vomit, showed signs of memory problems, and did not get to a hospital ASAP.
All the other weird and borderline surreal stuff in the film is a lot of fun, but that part's just wrong.

ghost wrote: Mon Mar 04, 2024 6:14 pm Well, I saw it as a challenge and really worked on the audio track. I splitted it up in two separate tracks (dialogue and music/background noises) and changed some levels. Everything should sound more balanced now. Let me know, what you think:
