VHS quality is fine but the Russian rip may be the worst of the 3 available, not counting the wax figure version linked above lol If the other sources are still dead after a while I'll probably get started on the Russian version, no worries.

I am looking into finding my copies of these and will share what I have, as you are interested in making subs.

I am assuming you already have the 4.3 GB version titled "Amour Fou (1993)..FR.540p.TVRip.vhs.flac.h264-QWERTZ", and that is the one with the AI effects you are referring to?

May I ask if you are planning to translate from the Russian dub or from the French audio?

Thanks. Yes, I have that version and plan to use the audio from it. I also have a Russian version and German version, thanks to whoever reshared.

Findings so far:

Russian version (1.64gb): Brightest, most detail, but blown out skintones and heavy ghosting
German version (1.04gb): Most natural colors, but aspect ratio slightly off
French version (4.30gb, AI-modified): Has original French audio, but darkest and looks like a videogame

The French audio syncs up fairly well to the Russian video, but will need some editing to fit the German one since some shots were cut short (at least 4 seconds missing). I'll see about doing it this weekend.

I am glad you have found something you can work with, in spite of my own pessimism. Clearly you have the technical confidence to tackle difficult audio syncs. It sounds like the French-into-German one would immediately defeat me. I wish you success for your entire project!

Found my copies of the 1.04 GB and 4.3 GB versions, and my findings correlate exactly with what you listed. Every version except the 4.3 GB file is dubbed. You have the same files as I. Sadly I cannot find any better quality files with the original French audio.

Even considering the lack of a quality video, I still hope you are inclined to proceed with your subtitle project. Your sub could always be adjusted to a newer discovery of this movie in the future. Let me know if you need any help.
