[REL] I Kill Giants (2017) USA/Belgium/UK

From ART's MegaPost:
I kill giants - 2017 - U.K.

Found at uloz.to: (A number of choices.. ;) )
https://ulozto.sk/hledej?q=I+Kill+Giants&type=videos

I've got a number of movies and [REQ]'s to post and this was one of them [along with 'I'm Not a Witch' {a [REQ]}] . With the ease I've found some of these films I was really surprised that they weren't on ART's list... Hmmm, maybe he just hasn't posted them yet.. :think

Storyline

Barbara Thorson. 14yo Defiant, precocious, outspoken, and a loner, Barbara relates more to the make-believe world of Dungeons & Dragons. At home, she makes life difficult for her older sister, Karen, who is responsible for taking care of her and her brother. At school, psychologist Mrs. Mollé takes an interest in Barbara's increasingly worrisome behaviour. As she deals with loss and bullying, Barbara's imagined life begins spilling into her real one and she becomes obsessed with what she sees as her quest: killing giants. It's only when she's forced to face the truth and overcome her fears that Barbara is able to confront her demons. Based on the acclaimed graphic novel by Joe Kelly and Ken Niimura.

Let me start off by trying to justify [REL]ing this movie in the United States forum instead of either Belgium or UK:

Having scanned the movie I found that by all appearances it's set in an American seacoast town: There's an American flag flying in front of the school; the street signs look like the ones I see everyday; the characters speak in American accents..

If someone feels different, I won't be offended should this thread be moved.
:)

ALSO; I'm releasing the 3.11GB version as I think it's the better quality of the ones offered at uloz.to.. (In the quote from ART's MegaPost, you'll see the uloz links.. ;) )

Most people probably think it's a stinker of a movie since it didn't get much support with a highly advertised, wide theatrical release. If it even came to my city, I never heard about it... :( But I've found a LOT of gems that way, so I'm hoping that THIS movie will be a pleasant surprise. :pray

Can't be a stinker if it has girls in it, can it? LOL Thanks, kev.

Well, I just finished watching 'I Kill Giants' and I can understand how the film's promoters might have had a hard time trying to market this movie.

It's not a family film, it's not an action movie, it's not a fantasy film, it's not a straightforward drama... Having a child protagonist that is as disturbed and socially self-absorbed as she is annoying; Barbara Thorson's character seems to be actively trying to push everyone away from her.

Barbara was the antithesis of Ginny [from American Fable]. Whereas Ginny was a seemingly normal, but lonely girl caught up in extraordinary circumstances; Barbara was over-the-top weird; creating, in most cases, her own calamities..

Don't get me wrong; I still loved her and wanted to wrap my arms around her to let her know I supported her 100%. And beyond just comforting her, I wanted to stand beside her and help her through every crazy endeavor she got herself involved in. In that respect [me being who I am] the film really worked for me as I was pulled into her insanity, just enough to keep me anxious to find out what was going to happen next.

Now for the con: Having read a number of reviews on this film, I'll have to agree with the complaint that her motivations weren't really clear due to the expository scenes being few and really bunched up at the end of the film. As if the writer felt that dropping clues and gradually illuminating the audience would lessen the impact of the climax..

Well, I forgave him all that and just enjoyed the movie as it was. As annoying as she was, I wanted things to work out for Barbara..

(...And the brother in this movie: While not a sociopath, or a complete asshole, he WAS a jerk. Fortunately, not a lot of screentime was given to develop his character, so he didn't bother me that much..)

Two movies in a row; American Fable and I Kill Giants, left me satisfied with their conclusions though a bit on the melancholy side.. [sigh] :)

I'm feeling good about coming-of-age movies again!

I don't know what it was about last night, but after I read your post in the 'Savages' thread I started searching around old posts and that lead me to some other [REL]'s I made years ago. After reading my own reviews about the films, I remembered how I had been pleasantly surprised by those movies. Noticing none of them had gotten much traction [1 or 2 responses, if any] I decided to unceremoniously 'BUMP' them for newer members that don't do a lot of searching through our vast archives..

Sometimes I get excited about certain movies. Hatching and Petite Maman are recent examples.. :heart

Anyway, if you haven't seen this one, I think you'd enjoy it.. :think :)

That definitely includes me! I happened upon FLM when searching for a movie and I always automatically read new posts, but I do not look back through old threads unless someone bumps it. Then I get caught up on the past. Sometimes I find that a movie I liked in my old low quality version actually had a HD version released here years ago. More often I am introduced to movies I never heard of.

ALL PRAISE TO THE BUMPERS, WHATEVER THEIR REASONS!
