[REL] Cheerleaders in the Chess Club (2015-2017 TV Series)

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5764742/

This doesn't really need a release, because it's perfectly freely available on youtube for everyone, on the producers' own channel, and will probably stay there. But I think it's cool enough to deserve its own thread, and that means it must meet the minimum requirents for an FLM release.

It was originally released as the first season of a series of shorts on youtube, but they then re-released it as one video that's a bit over an hour long. Watching that video, I have no idea where each of the original short episodes ends and the next one starts, so I think it's fair to call it one movie.

It doesn't have any scenes this forum would usually find "interesting", but I think it's very funny and has great characters played by good-looking young actresses.

The plot is that one of the heads of a school chess club blackmails the head of the cheerleading squad into joining the club, and she brings one other cheerleader with her. Hilarity, as they say, ensues. It's not gritty or realistic, but light-hearted and to some extent surreal.

Since I don't even know when exactly it was originally released, I have no idea about the actresses' and actors' ages. So theoretically it's possible that in the future, after additional research, a Mod will have to move it to Verified Off-Topic. But I hope not, and the cast looks fairly young to me.

My post is what I downloaded from youtube, after I passed it through a video processor.

Here it is on youtube:

[Code] Edited to add: The video is in a format so that you can only watch it once you've downloaded either all of it or, if you're doing an emule download, the last part of it. So don't worry if you can't watch the parts you've already downloaded while you're downloading it.

Here's my attempt to post it on emule:

And here is a brief conversation I had about it with pillowbaker in the Ask Me About My Shirt thread in the short films section:

Thanks for that one! I'm currently watching it. Not done yet. I literally laughed out loudly when the guy reacted that way to the two cheerleaders walking into the club. Dude, there's a number of fairly cute girls already in your club, and each of them would probably be a better fit for you than either of those two!
pillowbaker wrote: Wed Sep 17, 2025 7:21 pm Hey glad you like it. I have considered making it a release here before. I hope you like Beth's character as much as I did. And also what they did to Cindy's character at the end. There is also a direct sequel ("season 2") to this miniseries. I found it enjoyable and worth watching, but not quite as good as the first season. Its overarching title apparently is "Romance".

Yeah, Beth's great. Early on, I liked the way Penny explains the basic rules of chess. I also like how they're all weird, but weird in clearly different ways, with their clearly distinct personalities.

It's just that what's left of my old first aid training kicked in and revolted when
Spoiler:

Ashley hit her head, had to vomit, showed signs of memory problems, and did not get to a hospital ASAP.
All the other weird and borderline surreal stuff in the film is a lot of fun, but that part's just wrong.
Since this is my first attempt at a release, please tell me if I could have done something better, Admins or Mods.

This is unquestionably on topic. I added an IMDB link. You could include screenshots in a RELease post.
Congratulations on your first RELease! :icon_thumbup1

I generally binge-watch series anyway so having all the short episodes in one video is convenient. :D

Here are the girls among the main characters, and, in one of the screencaps, one of the two boys:

I'll join in to say cheers and give my compliments for joining the ranks of releasers here at FLM, ttulog. You, Moonee, Unigami and Sue have especially been quite productive and livened this place up quite a bit. So much I admit I cannot keep up. Better this way than the alternative.

This miniseries by the YAP crew is one that I have returned to a few times since first discovering their works. I enjoy how well everyone stays in character, and I love how the characters are tweaked a bit as we go along. It's great to see films that display a not-unrealistic and not-overly-wholesome side of how the kids in school act. Some of them want to keep things on track for the actual practice of chess, while at the same time going about their own business, and at the same time, the other members are just doing whatever they want, regardless of the importance of their activity. All the side shenanigans are a comfort in this miniseries.

The show is also uncommonly quotable for a production of this level. Cindy's expressiveness was delightful. It's so funny how she plays along with whatever happens, like when Chester the Jester is introduced: "I'm sure he'll figure it out. He's taught me everything I know!" And quiet Beth did great with how expressive she was without speaking, especially when she was first grilled by Ashley.

This part was hilarious:
Spoiler:

"Girls can line up and pay a dollar to kiss you. I'm sure we'd make hundreds, maybe millions, and that would just be from me."
Usually, after watching the first season, I'll watch the second season the next day. To anyone that enjoys Cheerleaders in the Chess Club, I do recommend it. It's just got a bit more romance drama going on and not all the scene are as easy to sit through. It does offer a small bit of closure at the end, just enough to leave you wanting a little more.

Do you know, or does anyone else know, whether the main actresses had aged out of the FLM range by the time of the second season?

They are all most certainly within the FLM age range. My guess is the actors are mostly between 13 to 16, maybe one of them being 17, but the characters they play are likely 14 to 16. Some here at FLM have a general preference for the younger characters, but most will still enjoy a series with the mid teens, especially since at that age, they may be more likely to experiment. Some pretty great COA films with characters at this age range.

If you would like to post season 2, I am sure it would be welcomed here.

The sequel, Season 2. As pillowbaker said, it's called "Romance", and is about our heroes and heroines trying to find, well, romance. No physical action of any kind, though.

I should warn you that if you really liked Cindy in the first part, there's almost nothing of her in the second part. (She was my favorite character in the first part. In the second part, it's Beth.)

The second part is longer than the first. About 1 hour and 24 minutes.

There's one new male character, but I'm pretty sure he's outside the age range the boy-minded people here might care about.

Since there aren't any new girls, I can't think of any new screencaps to post.

The video is, once again, what I downloaded from youtube and then put through a video processor.
